Knowing How to Use Traffic Exchanges
by Chris Padgett on Mar.13, 2009, under Marketing
There is a lot of people out there that doesn’t understand how traffic exchanges work or the best ways to benefit from them. A traffic exchange is a place that members can surf and earn credits. The credits they earn for viewing other people’s websites, they can use to promote their own websites. It really is a great and free way to promote your website online and get new visitors coming to your site. People often get discouraged because they don’t see immediate results or they want better results than what they are achieving.
If you have a website that lists various products and you want people to come to your website and buy something from it; then a traffic exchange can help. You need to understand how it helps and the best way to use your credits in traffic exchanges. It isn’t likely that someone that signs up for a free traffic exchange are going to buy a product or service from your website. This is where a lot of people make the mistake with traffic exchanges. You’re targeting a poor audience more than likely and you aren’t going to get good results when you target a poor audience.
The people that use search engines to find things online everyday is where you want your website to appear. People rarely look at the 2nd page of a search through a search engine, so the first thing webmasters need to do is get ranked on the first page. You want to get ranked on the first page for various search terms that relate to your website. This is the way you target your audience and this will lead to better results or more sales for you.
A traffic exchange delivers traffic to your website, so this makes the search engines think you have more traffic coming to your website; than you actually do. Search engine rankings are based on a number of things, but the ones that have a steady flow of traffic coming to them is the ones that will get indexed the highest. You can benefit from having your website shown in the traffic exchanges, but it’s not the members of the traffic exchanges that you should be after. It’s their time spent at your website that will benefit you the most in the long run. It does take time for these traffic numbers to show up and the search engines to give you a proper ranking. Using traffic exchanges can be an effective way to market your self online, but it often takes weeks if not months for you to start seeing the positive results from them. You do want to use other marketing tools online and not just focus on traffic exchanges.
The longer a person visits your website is key for better rankings in the search engines. Since a traffic exchange has timers of 10, 20, or 30 seconds; then your not going to be doing well in this area. You do need to find ways to keep people at your website for longer amounts of time and this can be tough sometimes. You do need to be creative and have pictures or interesting headlines that will capture people’s attention and keep them looking at your website longer. When you learn how to get traffic coming to your website and keeping them there for minutes instead of seconds; this will lead to much better search engine rankings. Keep this in mind when you’re striving to get listed on the first page for a certain search term.
I do think every webmaster should be using traffic exchanges to an extent to get their website noticed. I would focus on the top 10 traffic exchanges for the best results possible. A website getting daily views from a traffic exchange will have the opportunity of getting listed higher, than a website that isn’t using traffic exchanges for extra visitors. Focus on the search engines and do everything possible to make sure your website is SEO (search engine optimization) friendly. This is where your target audience is and the people that will help you the most.
