One of the new shows airing this fall is Modern Family and it’s one of the few bright spots in the new fall schedule. This show deals with 3 families and they are all very different but at the same time they’re all very modern families. You get to see a view of 3 different families and the things that go on in their household with this new TV show from ABC. I think Modern Family is one of the top 3 shows out there this fall and it seems like the star of the show is Al Bundy from Married with Children. It really isn’t Al Bundy, but actor Ed O’Neillplays one of the men on Modern Family and there are some similarities to his character on this new ABC show as his character for Fox’s Married with Children.

As of right now, Sarah Hyland who plays Haley in Modern Familydoesn’t have that big of a role. In fact, she didn’t even appear in the last two episodes of Modern Family, but did make an appearance in tonight’s episode. It makes you wonder if there is a contract dispute some where along the lines or if this was just the intention of the show’s creators? From the cast of characters that make up this new fall show on ABC; it would seem that this cute teen would have a lot of air time and they would want to use her to pull in a bigger audience. Sarah Hyland does have a very young appearance and you would think she is 12 or 13 years old with 14 as your highest guess. She is actually 18 years old and will turn 19 in late November. These super young looks and the fact that she is an adult should open up a lot of roles for her in Hollywood. Some may remember Sarah in Private Parts, the story about Howard Stern, and she played the role of his daughter. She has also appeared in the movies: The Audrey Hepburn Story in 2000; Spanglish in 2004; and Blind Date in 2008.

Modern Family

While I do think Sarah Hyland is the star attraction for all of the new shows this fall on TV, I think her show Modern Family ranks 3rd on my list as of right now. Another ABC show that I like better than Modern Family is the one that stars Christian Slaterand he might just be the 2nd biggest star to shine this fall. He is an ex-cop that plays a role for an organization that tries to identify the people that can’t be recognized or identified by the police. He leads his group of volunteers each week to hunt down some person that has died, but yet no one knows who they are. That is until Christian Slater and his friends get a few tidbits of information and then the journey begins as they break down all of the clues and finally get a name to match up with a body. Slater’s character name on the show is Alex Donovan and there appears to be a little bit of a mystery that is looming around his character. He apparently has a daughter that gets mentioned briefly from time to time and I’m thinking this is going to be a future episode that will involve Alex Donovan and his missing daughter. Now the show hasn’t said she was missing, but as of right now, you would have to think that Alex and his friends will get a missing girl and it will probably end up being his daughter. I may be wrong here and totally off, but it does seem a bit strange right now, how they just briefly mention her and then the show moves on. I guess we will have to wait and see where The Forgotten takes us this fall.

flash-forward

Now I have named the 3rd best show (Modern Family) and the 2nd best show (The Forgotten), I think it’s time to announce the best new show to debut this fall. If you have seen the show already; then I am sure you recognize who is in the picture above. If you haven’t watched the best new show to come on TV this fall; then I will let you know what it is. I think the top new show is Flash Forward. I would recommend setting your VCR or DVR for this one and it airs on Thursday nights and it is another ABC show. I think ABC is the top network this fall and they won with the best new shows this year.

Even though FlashForward is my pick as the top new show, it still isn’t that great of a show. There is enough drama and suspense in this show that makes you want to watch it each week, so you will know what’s going on. Basically the show started off with a boom and it didn’t take long for everyone in the world to black out. I’m guessing we saw the blackout after the first episode had been on for 5 minutes. Everyone in the world (almost everyone) did black out and each person saw a quick glimpse into their future. It seems the whole world loss consciousness for 137 seconds and no one knows why. The show has you on your tip toes each week to see why the blackout happened and what is up with the 137 seconds. The lead character is Joseph Fiennes (pictured above) and he plays the role of FBI Special Agent Mark Benford. His flash forward focused on him trying to solve the blackout and now he is trying to catch up and solve this mystery; before a set date in 2010 gets here. This probably isn’t the best new show television has ever gave us, but it is the best one they gave us in 2009, so try to enjoy it the best you can.
