West Nile Virus Time
When the weather warms up and mosquitoes start to swarm our yards, this will be when more and more West Nile Virus cases are reported. We still have a couple of more months before we see the worse of our mosquito population for this year, but you can be sure when they come out, some will be carrying the West Nile Virus with them. For those that are healthy, they may only suffer flu-like symptoms for a few days. It’s the elderly, children and those that have immune deficiencies are at the greatest risk from West Nile Virus.
You can find tips online in several places on how to prevent getting the West Nile Virus. The main thing is to clean up around your home and make sure you have nothing in the yard or around the house that collects rain water. Standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes and this is the best way from preventing them in and around your home. It’s also a good idea to climb up on the roof top a day or two after a good rain has fallen and see if your gutters have any standing water in them. Be sure to fix the problem or make an effort to get up on the roof and get the water out of the gutters after every rain storm this summer.
