How Many More Years To Pay Off the Home?
by Chris Padgett on Aug.13, 2010, under Home Finance
I know it must be really tough to sign those papers for a 30 year loan, so you can begin that long journey of becoming a homeowner. I have never put my name to a document like that and as I get older, I guess the chances grow slimmer that I will never have a home mortgage to payoff. In most cases, it will take that full 30 years to get that loan paid off.
Now more than likely the majority of you now already have a dent into that 30 year plan. But if you think about it, there were a lot of people in Georgia, North Carolina, and around the other 50 states who just signed that paper today. I mean they actually put their name on the dotted line on this Friday the 13th of all days and there journey is only beginning. Don’t you feel sorry for the hundreds or perhaps thousands of new home buyers who just signed 30 years of their hard-working dollars away, just sot they could have a place to hang their hat and rest their head at night.
If you come by this blog post in the next day or two or even if it’s a few weeks from now and you have signed your name on the new house payments for 30 years and did this on Friday the 13th in August 2010; please be sure to reply and tell your story. I’m sure there is a lot of signing and dating on these contracts and documents for big 30 year loan and I imagine after you signed Friday the 13th on a few things, you would clearly remember your first day on this long, long road to getting that big 30 year loan or 360 months! A person will basically have to pay $750 and up on every single day for a whole entire year. Since the monthly payments do equal 360 and there are 365 days in a year.
While Friday the 13th in August of 2010 is a lot of people’s starting point for a brand new home. I’m sure there are just as many others out there, who sent their last payment off today and now they have completed the 30 year cycle! For those who now officially own their own home and it became official on Friday the 13th; then I believe this unlucky number and day, might just hold a little luck for you!
Don’t get too down if Friday the 13th is only the starting point for you; while others are celebrating this as the end of the journey. You have to keep in mind, these people celebrating today, had to have a Day 1 too and I’m sure on their Day 1; which was 30 years ago, there were other home owners who were celebrating their final day for the final home payment too. And on one glorious and beautiful day in the late summer of 2040; you will have your chance to celebrate your 30 year journey to becoming a home owner!

Floods Taking a Toll in Georgia
by Chris Padgett on Oct.01, 2009, under Home Finance
Mother Nature has been kind with her H2O for the people living in Georgia. It wasn’t long ago we was suffering from the worse droughts our state has ever seen. Now we are getting more rain than we know what to do with. It seems more rain is forecasted for the days ahead and we are in a very wet cycle right now. The grounds are soaked and can’t hold any more water. All the rain that falls now or most of it is just run off. These rains are running off the grounds in the Peach State and flowing into our creeks, streams, and rivers. These areas can’t hold much more water either and they are leaving their banks and filling up the lakes fast.
There are two big lakes in North Georgia. Allatoona Lake and Lake Lanier are the main sources of water in Atlanta and the northern Georgia areas. These two big lakes are either full or near full pool capacity in Georgia. Now with more rains forecasted for the future, it remains to be seen where all of this water can go. It isn’t likely we will have any droughts in the near future and the water table in Georgia is very high right now. We could see the floods get worse than we did a few weeks back when 3 interstates got shut down in Georgia. For now the only thing Georgia residents can do is wait and see how much more rain we will get this fall and go from there. More flood damage is expected and Georgia may still be having flood problems into November if things don’t have a chance to dry out anytime soon. The Georgia floods are really taking a toll on the state and there is already millions of dollars of damage and more damage is expected in the Georgia floods in the coming weeks. Please feel free to share your GA flood stories and your opinions on the recent rain in Georgia. I hope you haven’t suffered any home damages yet or your home has been repaired from the heavy rains in Georgia.
Saving Energy with Exit Signs
by Chris Padgett on Sep.17, 2009, under Home Finance

As we begin to roll into the 21st century, we are seeing more demands for energy and some of the effects on our global climate that is coming with these increased demands. In order to preserve our normal way of life on this planet (according to most experts) we must find better and smarter ways to use our energy. Sometimes the smallest changes in an household or a business can make a huge difference on the bigger picture and the amount of energy we can save on a daily basis. Our EXIT SIGNS is not something we think of consuming a lot of energy each day and they do use very little. However, if we could find ways to use less energy on these signs, we could see significant decreases in our energy-use if we started applying this to all exit signs.
The first logical step we could start with is not hooking any electricity or energy to these signs. This might be fine for our daylight hours, but our exit signs would not be visible at night or perhaps even on cloudy days. This would create safety hazards and really isn’t an option. We must illuminate these signs in areas that are dark. An exit sign needs to be clearly visible and could be seen at night as easy as it could be seen during the daytime hours. Steps are already underway that are keeping our exit signs visible and using less energy than our exit signs of yesterday were using. As of January 1, 2006 all exit signs that are produced after this date must have an input power demand of 5 watts or less. These new 2006 standards of using 5 watts or less is based on a per face basis for all exit signs.
The folks from Energy Star are leading us into the 21st century and helping us reach our goals of using less energy. An Exit Sign that is able to draw less power will enable companies to shave additional costs from their overhead and make for a greener America.

Less Worries with a Security System
by Chris Padgett on May.14, 2009, under Home Finance
I know we all have some valuable things in our home. Some items have a price tag that makes them valuable and other things are “one of a kind” like home movies or old photographs of family and friends. We never want a fire or flood to destroy these precious items and I know some home owners worry about that. A criminal breaking into your home and stealing these valuables is what we probably worry about the most. We can stop the worries or at least have less worries with a modern security system installed. It’s worth dishing out a few bucks for a wireless security system versus the lost we would have if some items ever were to get stolen from our home.
I had a wallet I use to carry around with me all the time. I had this wallet for more than 10 years and it was worn out pretty bad. It was my favorite wallet though and I wouldn’t have got rid of it for nothing in the world. Inside that wallet I had a few old coins that I cherished a lot and also it had my typical things like credit cards and driver’s license. That wallet that I loved so much got stolen from my home. I was actually there when it happened, but not much I could do. I was in the bathroom taking a shower when a knock came from the front door. I was the only one at home, so I yelled for the person to come in. They came in and were asking if the house next to ours was for sale and who to contact. I really didn’t have much information to give to the stranger, so I just hollered back and told him I didn’t know. We were having this conversation while I was locked inside the bathroom taking a shower and he was in my living room. He soon left and I finished taking my shower. I didn’t notice anything right away, but later on I would need my wallet. I looked everywhere for it and couldn’t find it no where. I normally kept it on the back of our love seat in the living room and finally realized how appealing it must have looked to the stranger. That person stole my wallet with me in the bathroom taking a shower.
Now I don’t think any security system would have really helped in this situation, but it just shows you what kind of people there is in the world today. Protect America has some great security packages you can get and its affordable security too! I really like the silver package they are offering on their website. For less than $35 dollars a month:
* Talking Control Panel
* 10 Entry Points
* Internal Siren & Door Chime
* Battery Backup
* One Button Arming
* 3 Window Decals
* 1 Yard Sign
*Free Added Bonus (limited time) Sensor Upgrade
I really think this security package would provide everything my home needs. You can find other security packages that are above the silver and some are lower than the silver package. These are the type of security packages a home owner wants for their home, so they can worry less at night and when they are away during the day at work. Showering in Cold Water
by Chris Padgett on Mar.13, 2009, under Home Finance
I feel bad to those that have to get up in the early morning hours to get ready for work. It’s no fun waking up early and forcing your self to the bathroom to take a shower. The first time the water hits you from the showerhead isn’t pleasant and is a wake up call. A shower does help to get you going in the morning, but it can be difficult starting a shower when you just woke up from a warm bed.
I really hate taking a shower when someone in the kitchen turns on the hot water and causes the water in the bath tub to run cold. You have to reach down and turn the cold water down, but once the kitchen’s hot water is turned off again, it causes the water in the bathroom to be too hot then. I know some households have a limited supply of hot water and it’s easy to run it all out while taking a shower. If you like taking long, hot showers; you should really consider getting a larger water heater. A new electric tankless water heater or just a bigger size tank will allow more hot water to be stored inside. A new water heater will prevent those cold showers. This will help those people that have to get their shower in, after someone else in the house has taken one. A new water heater won’t stop you from having to wake up so early for work, but will keep the water running warm.

A trip to the central part of Florida has anything and everything a family could possibly want on a vacation. You can see Mickey Mouse at Disney World or visit one of the many theme parks that surround the Orlando, Florida area. Families have been making trips to Orlando for a long time now and they always come back happy from their Orlando vacations.
Home Prices Losing Value
by Chris Padgett on Feb.21, 2009, under Home Finance
The housing market has been going down lately. Many people owe more on their homes now; than what they are actually worth. I think this would have to be very frustrating for home owners having to pay more for their houses when the currenty economical crisis we are in now, actually shows their homes in a lower value. It may take some time for things to correct in the housing industry, but it seems we have hit rock bottom in a lot of areas of our economy.
If your home is currently losing value you may be able to renogiate your current financing plan. It is a good idea for all home owners to do this regularly so you are paying the cheapest interest rates possible. Jim Crammer is saying that things will fix after June 30th of this year and he usually knows what he is talking about. Let’s see if July is the magical month where the housing industry gets back on track and our homes do increase in value. This is a good market for people looking to buy a house and you should be able to find some really good deals in most parts of the country.
Should Insurance Be a Choice?
by Chris Padgett on Feb.05, 2009, under Home Finance
I know when bad things happen we are all glad we have insurance to cover the damages. In some cases we don’t have the choice of owning insurance or not. I know for me to drive my car in the state of Georgia, I have to have it covered by insurance. It’s illegal in my state to not have auto insurance and I would like that choice to be mine; instead of a law that enforces it. All home owners should have home insurance and its easy to understand why. A fire or thunderstorm can cause a lot of damage to a home and insurance comes in handy during these awful times. For the price you pay each month or yearly; the insurance on your home is well worth it. The house is the most expensive thing we will buy in our lifetimes, so it makes sense to have that insured. I think other insurance plans should be a choice for everyone and no state laws should require a person to have insurance. This is just my opinion on the subject and I’m sure it would change if I go out tomorrow and have a bad accident on the road. Since I consider my self a safe driver, I would prefer not to own insurance if I had a choice in the matter.
How’s the Air?
by Chris Padgett on Feb.05, 2009, under Home Finance
Is the air in your home safe to breathe? I doubt my room would pass and the air quality in my room gets really poor during the winter time. I don’t open the window much and I keep my door closed for most of the day and night. It’s hard for fresh air to find it’s way into my bedroom during the winter and I should take steps to correct this. I don’t think its too healthy to take-in all of this bad air and a dehumidifier or air cleaner would be welcome in my room. The rest of the house is good and other rooms get ventilated well; this is just a problem in my bedroom. Maybe the weather will warm up soon here and I can go back to opening a window and breathing fresh air again.
Your Reservations with Westgate
by Chris Padgett on Jan.05, 2009, under Home Finance
If you’re tired of the places you stay at on vacations or on business trips, you might want to consider making a reservation with Westgate. Several different states in which you can make a reservation through Westgate to insure you and your family has a great place to board at; while away from home. The Westgate Branson Woods have rooms that normally cost $84 a night, but travelers only have to pay $49 a night when using the services that Westgate provide. I think Branson, Missouri is a great destination for any family and staying there for less than 50 dollars a night makes a lot of sense. Be sure to check out places in Utah, Florida, South Carolina, Nevada, Virginia, and Tennessee for places to stay out through the help of Westgate and see what the current weather conditions are like from their website at various travel destinations.
June 30th, 2009 Housing Help
by Chris Padgett on Dec.21, 2008, under Home Finance
The housing problems continue to face home owners and new home buyers looking for the American Dream. This will end soon, but not before a few things get fixed first. It’s gonna take another 6 months for the housing situation to fix and people will just have to hold on until then. The real estate companies and hardware stores will have to be patient until June gets here of next year. It will be June 30th when everything starts to look bright and home sales and homes will begin flourishing once again.
Some people may not be able to hold on for another 6 months and these people may be in trouble. It will take the housing industry more time to get things straight. Everything will be fine after June 30th of 2009, but not a minute sooner. These are the tough times we’re facing right now and everyone will just have to sit back and bite their tongues on this one. I know it’s hard and it will get a little harder before things start to look up in our housing sector in America. June 30th is the date we can see improvements and these will be across the board for everyone involved in the housing industry.
Vacation Homes in North Carolina
by Chris Padgett on Dec.02, 2008, under Home Finance
There are some really nice vacation homes that residents of North Carolina and people driving out of state come to and enjoy. These beautiful homes are located in the outer banks nc and it’s the ideal place to take the family for a vacation. These fine homes are managed by Carolina Designs Realty Inc and they are the people you need to find, so you can start making plans to spend your next family vacation in Carolina. I saw one of their featured homes and it had a swimming pool and a pool table with it. Now that sounds like 2 things every family needs; while on vacation. I guess this is the reason Washingtonian Magazine said ”best bet for rentals“. These rental homes are really nice and offer so many luxuries with them. You can find these vacation homes located in Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil, Nags Head, Corolla, Southern Shores, and Duck, North Carolina.
I wish I had the time to take a vacation right now, because North Carolina is a short drive from my home in North Georgia. I believe anyone living in the southern states of Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, and South Carolina would find the drive no problem to escape to one of these homes located on the outer banks of North Carolina. I’m sure some folks don’t even live in the south and find the trip’s well worth it, for them to stay in one of these nice vacation rentals. Several homes and locations are available, so go pick out the rental home that you would like to spend your next vacation in!
Proper Maintenance on Septic Tanks
by Chris Padgett on Nov.23, 2008, under Home Finance
When was the last time you checked your sewer or septic tank? Over time a lot of waste can build up in your sewer systems and if not handled properly it can become a big mess. We have never had any backups at my house, but I hear a sewage backup is something you don’t want to deal with. It can become very costly if the problem has gone on for too long and the sewage starts to back up on your lawn. It would also become a problem you or the neighbors would not be pleased with and the effects could last for a long time. Stop the sewage backup problems before they start and find ways to relieve the stress on your septic tanks. A little time and effort now can go a long ways in saving you money and the awful effects of sewage backup. If you haven’t did anything to your sewer system in years; then now is a good time to play it safe. Don’t let things go too far and take care of it now before it does become a problem. Water Restoration 911 is a good place to start for help and you can learn about weather conditions like rain and humidity and also the warning signs that appear before there is a major problem. They also have a 24 hour hotline you can call for all your questions, problems, or concerns when it comes to sewage backup. 1-877-FLOOD14

Backyard Bird Feeders
by Chris Padgett on Oct.28, 2008, under Home Finance
The main room in our house is the den that has the big television and all of the comfy furniture to sit or lay on. We have two big windows that give us a nice view of the backyard and one of the things we like to do is watch the birds feed from the birdfeeder. We have a standard birdfeeder that we put seeds in and often we see the squirrels enjoying it as much as the birds do. Our birdfeeder is located right between two tarby worm trees, so the birds have plenty of places to come in for a landing or sit near by while another bird is feeding. It’s really a great way to watch nature and you will get your money’s worth out of a birdfeeder.
I would also like to add some other birdfeeders to the backyard to create more activity to watch. The hummingbird feeders would be my first choice and we don’t see many hummingbirds with the feeders we have now. We could just hang these from the house and close to the windows, so we could see these amazing creatures come in for a bite to eat. They don’t land like most birds do and you often see hummingbirds just hovering in the air as they sip from a birdfeeder or from a flower that has just bloomed. Birdfeeders.com has a nice selection of hummingbird feeders and I might just have to order one from them. I’m sure you will find one that matches your house or the decor in your yard. So many beautiful designs available to choose from and it’s really simple to hang one of these out in the backyard. I’m sure my family’s attention would be less on the television in the den and more focused on the hummingbirds, if we hung one from the house. It’s also inexpensive to keep one of these hummingbird feeders filled with the stuff that attracts them and what they feed off. So the backyard might just get a bit more lively next spring if I add a 2nd birdfeeder to the backyard.
Where Does Business End?
by Chris Padgett on Oct.10, 2008, under Home Finance
I wouldn’t need much right now to make me happy in the financial sense. I would be thrilled if I owned a small bar with a few pool tables in it and to me that would be the perfect business. I know if the business gets popular and you need more seating and pool tables to make people happier, you would want to expand the business. You’re not only making your customers more comfortable, but your financial situation improves and you start making more money. The more money you make, gives you more thought of expansion or just opening up a new pool hall or bar in a new city or community. So I could see this process going on and on, until you reached the point that you owned one of those las vegas hotels. I’m sure a big hotel located in a city like Las Vegas would be the ultimate business to own and even that might not be the end of the business road. I can’t think of too many ways that you could move up from there, but I guess starting a chain of hotels and casinos all over the country would be the next logical step. I don’t have any plans to own a big hotel located in a big city, but the much smaller dream of running my own pool hall would be something I would like right now.
