Remember Joan Jett and the Blackhearts?

by Chris Padgett on Mar.02, 2010, under Favorite Video

Crimson & Clover by Joan Jett
YouTube Preview Image

Now I always liked this song by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. I think Crimson and Clover was one of those songs that took a backseat to their most famous song. Do you remember what the name of that song was? If you said I Love Rock N’ Roll; then you would be correct! Don’t get me wrong, I love the song I Love Rock n’ Rolland it was one I listened to many times. It’s the song I think of first when I think about the lady of rock n’ roll Joan Jett. It wasn’t until I went to a Atlanta Thrashers hockey game a few years back; when I really got a chance to hear the song Crimson and Clover. A concert late at night after a hockey game and hearing this song sung by the famous Joan Jett, just put you in a setting like you were some where else. It was on this night when I really fell in love with this song.

Just recently I saw a movie on TV and this song Crimson & Cloverwas played during a big climax in the movie. It was a perfect touch for that movie and I remember that scene very well. I really miss the songs from the 1980′s and often I will watch channel 6008 on Dishnetwork satellite, because this is one of the Sirius music channels and they play nothing but 80′s music here. They also offer music channels for other decades of music like the 1950′s, 1960′s, 1970′s and I believe they have one for the 1990′s now. It’s hard to believe that 2010 is already here and music has changed so much over the last 60 years.

Did you grow up during the 1980′s? Please feel free to share some of the songs you liked from the 80′s decade and do you remember some of these songs that got played on the radio back in the 1980′s generation:

1. Sister Christian by Night Ranger

2. Celebration by Kool and the Gang

3. Jessie’s Girl by Rick Springfield

4. Jack and Diane by John Cougar

5. Gloria by Laura Branigan

6. Open Arms by Journey

7. 867-5309 Jennny by Tommy Tutone

8. You Dropped a Bomb on Me  by the Gap Band

9. Toto by Africa

10. Down Under by Men at Work

11. Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler

12. Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant

13. Every Breath You Take by the Police

14. Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran

15. Cum on Feel the Noize by Quiet Riot

16. Puttin on the Ritz by Taco

17. She Blinded Me with Science by Thomas Dolby

18. 1999 by Prince

19. Billie Jean by Michael Jackson

20. Mexican Radio by Wall of Voodoo

21. Footloose by Kenny Loggins

22. Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr.

23. Hello by Lionel Richie

24. Jump by Van Halen

25. Karma Chamelon by Boy George

26. 99 Luftballoons by Nena

27. Somebody’s Watching Me by Rockwell

28. We’re Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister

29. Money for Nothing by Dire Straight

30. Amanda by Boston

I could go on and on with all the great music from the 1980′s decade. I’m sure you know a few of the songs above and for people that were in high school during the 1980′s generation; will know a lot of these songs well. I know going to the local skating rink and hearing these songs or a song like I love Rock N’ Roll by Joan Jett or Hurts So Good by John Cougar Mellancamp are just a couple of those songs that can take us back down memory lane again. I treasure the songs from the 80′s singers and bands. A lot of good music got made back then and it seem the lyrics is what made them so good. Today’s music is more about the music than the actual lyrics and I guess that’s why I’m not a big fan of modern music. I do try to stay hip and keep up with the latest artists coming out, but put the radio dial in my hand and we will be listening to the songs from the 1980′s generation. Feel free to name a few popular songs you remember from the 1980′s and which song or songs stick out in your head. I’m sure Joan Jett and the Blackhearts has to make most people’s top 10 list; when they look back on the great songs from this period in music.

New DJ Hero Game

by Chris Padgett on Nov.07, 2009, under Favorite Video

Pac Man

I’m still living in the past just a bit. I thought Ms. Pac Man was the latest video game out. I was a big fan of Dig Dug, Pitfall, Donkey Kong, and some of those other games you could get on the Atari. Of coarse you had Pac-Man that was big and everyone loves Pac Man. As much as I like the video game Pac Man, I think Ms. Pac Man was a much better game. It seems she could move faster and this was important for eating those dots and getting to those energizers when you needed them. Pac Man is a game that will still be around decades from now. I know the one most video game users like to play these days is Guitar Hero. I have heard that the adults like this game as much as the kids do. You know you have made a good video game; when the parents won’t let the children play it. I’m not sure how the new DJ video game will do, but it seems to be directed at the hip hop crowd or those that like rap music.

The Wall by Pink Floyd

by Chris Padgett on Oct.27, 2009, under Favorite Video

The Wall by Pink Floyd

After all these years the Wall by Pink Floyd is one of those videos that people still like to watch. It’s been a few years since I have seen it, but would like to watch it again. Pink Floyd has a lot of good songs and their music has survived through the years. You use to see their movie playing on television a lot. I noticed they were coming on pretty regularly on the TV music channels in the USA. Perhaps it’s still gets played heavily on the television channels outside the U.S..

What is your favorite Pink Floyd song? Another Brick in the Wall would be my favorite Pink Floyd song. However, there is at least a half dozen others that I like very well too. The Wall is a bit confusing to some and may be hard to understand, but once you learn the pattern of the movie and the story it is trying to tell, it is a good movie to watch.

Other bands and singers have did movie videos too. Most of them don’t ever produce a video that is as great as the Wall was and this has been the industry standard for many years now. I’m not sure if Pink Floyd is still touring or if they plan to do any future concerts. A Pink Floyd concert tour would be huge in the United States now. The music concerts have slipped a bit in recent years and a band like Pink Floyd could change that fast with an announcement of a future concert tour. I guess we will have to wait and see if Pink Floyd does plan to go on tour anytime soon and in the meantime, we can watch The Wall by Pink Floyd on video.

Charter’s Phatband Better than DSL

by Chris Padgett on May.16, 2009, under Favorite Video

The Phatband from Charter .vs. DSL

Ultra60small

How many satisfied DSL users are out there right now? There is probably a lot; because the old way of doing things with dial-up technology was just too slow and DSL rescued a lot of computer and internet users. Sticking in your favorite video to watch from your computer screen or playing the online games that have tons of graphics was not really possible with dial-up. DSL users can now do those things and it’s a far cry from the slow page loads and having to wait hours for files to download with the dial-up service.

Now we fast forward to 2009 and Charter is unveiling the Phatband for a speedy internet connection. Is it faster than my DSL service? You bet! It makes your current DSL look like the dial up from the 1990′s and Phatband is going to be the way of the future. Actually the future has already arrived for those living in the St. Louis area, because they are already zooming around the World Wide Web with their Charter Phatband connections. You can learn a lot more about this fast internet service Charter is offering from their Ultra60 Information Page.

Are you ready to step up to a faster connection and give the brand new Phatband a try? I know I sure am and I wished they would have started this great new service in Atlanta; instead of St. Louis. It seems the guys from the cable industry are advancing the technology so much faster than the DSL guys. At least when it comes to the technology of speed and everyone that has ever used a computer for any length of time, knows how important a fast computer or fast internet connection is. You can waste a lot of time surfing the Net with a slow computer and it makes life so much easier having that speed.

Watching movies and videos is popular on the computer these days and the new Ultra60 Mbps is going to help these folks a lot. It’s going to make downloading large files a snap. These super high speeds will also be good for telecommuting with mega-files and the list goes on and on for all the things extra you can do from more speed. Uploading pictures at Facebook or watching videos at You Tube will be a breeze. Twitter is another popular online website that won’t give you any troubles with the faster speeds. You can even send Charter a tweet if you want at Charter’s Twitter Feed. I think I would view a lot more videos online, if my internet speed was faster. Can you think of anything you would do more of if you computer suddenly was faster than what it is now? The dedicated gamers that stay up all night playing games will love the new Phatband from Charter and all the possibilities they will have for gaming online.

Charter’s commitment to providing their customers with the fastest internet speeds is about to come true. We will all be able to multitask like we never have before and this is only the start to all the power we will have with our internet connections blazing fast! They are rolling it out now and this new Ultra60 Mbps service will be available in other parts of the country later this year.

Song Rights Being Protected at You Tube

by Chris Padgett on May.08, 2009, under Favorite Video

There was a time you could go to You Tube and grab just about any video and embed it to your website or blog. This isn’t as easy any more and many videos at You Tube are becoming disabled when you look at the option to embed the video. Many of these songs are the original videos or performances of someone famous. I guess this is an attempt to make people pay to download these songs or go to the music stores to buy them.

It seems a bit harsh and we need to look at ways to make it easier on everyone instead of harder. I realize this takes money out of the hands of the music companies and performers, but these guys make more money than they should. They are amongst the upper class in our society and for them to take a pay cut is better than the poor man having to pay for their products.

I think users should have the ability to download songs for free online or go to YouTube and snag a real video or song. It just makes things easier and we need a society that is geared more to helping than charging people. We get “nickel” and “dimed” enough already and it’s time we start looking at free ways to do things. Everyone can still make money and be happy if music is available for free online. The music we hear in our ears everyday should not be another bill that we have to pay each month.

Digital TV has made it impossible to watch free TV now and the only thing left for free is the music on our radios. I don’t think it will stay free much longer on the direction we are heading right now. Let’s help fight for music and keep it free for everyone and give the poor man a hand.

Amazing Dolphin Bubbles

by Chris Padgett on Mar.25, 2009, under Favorite Video

I think most people are amazed at the intelligence a dolphin or bottlenose dolphin has stored up. Here is another example of something amazing dolphins can do. This was a video that got featured on World News with Charles Gibson and you can see for your self the amazing bubbles that dolphins can create.

Dolphin Bubbles at Sea World in Florida
YouTube Preview Image

What did you think?

You can see and discuss more about this at dolphin bubbles. A great website that allows people that love or have an interest in dolphins to voice their opinions and there is also a lot of great dolphin pictures that can be found here too. I was amazed to see these dolphins blowing bubbles out of their air holes and judging by other people’s comments, I wasn’t the only one.

Dolphins seem like creatures that do have a great personality. It’s no surprise that once they blow these amazing bubbles, they will go play with them too. I’m not sure how they can blow such perfect air bubbles like this, but it is very fascinating to watch. I would love to go to the Orlando area and see one of these dolphin shows. Judging by the video, it would appear that you can get an underwater view of these smart and beautiful animals. I hope we can continue to learn more about dolphins and protect them in the wild too. Dolphins are one animal that do seem to be a friend to humans.

Fishing Master: World Tour

by Chris Padgett on Mar.13, 2009, under Favorite Video

I love this time of year where the last days of winter are passing by and the days are getting just a bit longer. The longer daylight hours we have results in warmer weather and this means the sooner I can go fishing. I do love to fish in the spring time of the year. There is nothing better than that first tug at the line; when a fish is biting at a lure or worm you have on your line. I think everybody enjoys fishing as long as they’re catching them. I just like getting out of the house and enjoying the peaceful sounds that come from fishing at a lake or river.

During the cold months of the year or on rainy days people can still fish, thanks to the video game industry. It is pretty fun to play the different video games that are about fishing. I don’t often like the sports video games, but the fishing and baseball games are pretty fun. Fishing Master World Tour is a good fishing video game that I think most anglers would enjoy playing. It takes a little time to see what works best with these video games, but getting the chance to choose where you fish and what type of bait to use is fun. If you like to go fishing in real life; then you would probably enjoy the video games like Fishing Master World Tour and others that feature fishing.

You can find Fishing Master World Tour at Buy.com and there aren’t any shipping fees to pay for getting the game delivered to you. I often go to Buy.com where I can look for anything that might be on sale and see if I can find any good bargains. I ran across the fishing video game when I was there today and thought I would pass along the information. I’m not sure where World Tour ranks with the other fishing games out there, but I’m sure it’s one of the better ones. Perhaps you can recommend other video games about fishing and I will give them a try one day. The video game isn’t as fun as real fishing, but it is something you can do when you can’t be at the lake trying to hook the big one.

Oasis Best Video? Song?

by Chris Padgett on Dec.03, 2008, under Favorite Video

The band Oasis stormed out of the gate about 10 years ago, but I hadn’t really heard much of the band since that time. They came out with 2 really great songs and I wanted to know which one you thought was the best. Is Champagne Supernova or Wonderwall the best song that Oasis has ever done? Perhaps you know of another song that you like best from this band. Please listen to both songs below and let me know which one you like the best.

Champagne Supernova by Oasis

Wonderwall by Oasis

***************************************************************

Two great songs by this British band that call theirself Oasis. They use to be called The Rain and later changed their name to Oasis. The album that featured both of these great songs was the 3rd largest selling album in the UK. Champagne Supernova went to number 1 in the U.S. and both songs did very well no matter what side of the pond you were on.

So which song do you like the best? Please be sure to reply back with which Oasis song you like hearing the most. Did you forget these songs existed? They don’t play them on the radio much these days and I’m sure a lot of people have forgotten about these 2 songs by Oasis. It sure does bring back memories listening to them again and I may have to check out some of their newer stuff and see if it is any good too.

It probably sounds like a dream come true if you could just talk and words would appear on your screen. How much faster can you talk than type? I’m sure most of us would see a big increase in our typing production, if we could just talk without actually having to type a single word. This exciting program might not be a dream after all and so far it’s proven to be 99% accurate! I just wish my manual typing was 99% accurate. How much interest would you really have if you could type 3x faster than normal? You can Save 25% with discount code on Dragon with this link.

Blogging at the Speed of Thought

YouTube Preview Image

Hello my name is Brett Bumeter and I would like to introduce you to Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10. Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 is a program that enables you to type with your voice by speaking out loud. All you have to do is speak in a normal voice at a normal rate of speed, and your computer will capture every word that you say almost. The program claims to have about 99% accuracy, and it’s been my experience using the program over the last two years through versions nine and version 10 that this claim is extremely accurate.

The program is extremely fast whether you’re using a noise canceling microphone headset plugged into your computer or whether you’re using a pocket MP3 recorder. I actually use both setups and have had great success having my voice and words turned into text by typing them into my computer, as well as using my voice to turn my words into an MP3 file on my MP3 recorder which I can then import into my computer via USB, and have Dragon NaturallySpeaking transcribe those words automatically into text while the computer does something else.

Right now I am writing this particular note to you to kind of show you just what Dragon NaturallySpeaking can do. I say show you because I’m writing this letter with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to write with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10, but it does take a little practice in order to start thinking quickly and thinking out loud with your voice. That the nice thing about it is that you don’t have to stare at your computer screen for long hours anymore.

Typically when we type with our hands, we tend to look at the computer that were typing on. To be more specific we tend to look at the computer screen, and this wears out our eyes and makes us physically tired. The muscles in our eyes absorb all that light from the screen, and the longer we stare at that light the more tired our body becomes. This can even lead to headaches or migraines or just fatigue in general.

So the cool thing about Dragon NaturallySpeaking is that you can look around the room, look around where ever you happen to be, and taken some sights and smells in that you normally wouldn’t have the luxury of doing with your eyes glued to your screen. This really does help to keep your brain moving, and it helps get you thinking outside the box and focused on those things that you need to be focused on.

If you are the type of person that uses a white board quite a bit, you can even stand up and start brainstorming on a whiteboard, while you are simultaneously dictating the thoughts that come to you onto your computer. Now that’s not necessarily the most effective way to capture information off of a whiteboard, but if you need the information copied into text form, it can be very useful and I’m simply trying to illustrate a point. :-)

There are many ways that you can use this particular program to save you a great deal of time, to further illustrate that point, I have written this entire note so far in under three minutes flat! That’s a little over 175 words per minute, and this is actually the fastest ever time that I have recorded with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. When I used version 9, I had clocked the program running at about 167 words per minute, and so with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 and a brand-new laptop, I have just set a new personal record. :-)

That doesn’t include editing time which I will go back and do now, but it’s still amazing to be a laugh your words and thoughts captured so quickly by your computer.

Sincerely,
Brett Bumeter
http://softduit.com

PS Even with 3 minutes of editing thrown in (which included writing the salutation and a few more lines) this article still only took 6 minutes to write, and that averages out to about 92 words per minute!

User Generated Videos Online

by admin on May.19, 2008, under Favorite Video

The world never stops turning and neither does the people that upload their videos online each day to share with the whole world. User generated content has become a big thing and even advertisers are trying to get amateurs to promote their products or services these days. A couple of video cables or some HDMI cables and internet users can upload videos of their self, family members or anything else they choose to share with the world. I must admit watching home videos of ordinary people is addicting and I have sat for hours looking at videos at some of the more popular places online to view user generated videos. I’m not sure where this is all heading, but most can see the ideas for this is limitless. I really think advertisers can lock in to this particular area of online promotions and could greatly benefit by having everyday people talking up their products. I believe I will try to lock up my own video personality and see if I can increase my online exposure and rate of success with various programs. As long as there is young people and teens in high school that keep the videos uploading, I think the adults will catch up soon and see ways to maximize their goals with user generated content online.

New Computer Today; Old Tomorrow

by admin on May.08, 2008, under Favorite Video

It seems computers change by the minute and if you get one today, it will be out-of-date by tomorrow. The technology continues to boom in the computer world and those towers hold so much information today, that sit on our computer desks. Today’s computers have more memory, more speed and something like the video card holds so much information compared to the ones of yesterday. I think all the cables and places to plug in cables has increased dramatically too. Everyone needs some place to plug in their IPod and all of the other things that computers make better. Music is really simple to download from your computer to your IPod and this is just one of the things that make today’s computers so great. I just wonder what tomorrow does hold for the computers and just how much faster can they make them. The dual processor is a big help for surfing around on the internet and that technology has saved a lot of online users many hours each day. I hope the technology can continue to grow for tomorrow’s computers, but let’s keep the prices the same for today’s computers!

YouTube Star Bored After Birthday

Alex Explains Her Boredom

YouTube Preview Image

So what do you do when you’re bored?

It was just yesterday when the YouTube Sensation had her 16th Birthday and now 1 day later Alex finds her self bored. I usually get on the computer or try to find a movie on television to watch when I’m bored. I guess Alex did the same thing and came to YouTube to download her latest video. You can find more of Alex’s videos at Single Source Writing. There you can relive all of Alex’s videos as a fifteen year old girl growing up in Mexico. Alex has a lot of musical talents and those are displayed at my other blog; where you can see Alex playing the guitar and singing a variety of different songs. It’s been fun documenting her early music career through her You Tube Videos and I believe she will have many more years ahead of her. It should be interesting to see where this YouTube Sensation lands or just how much You Tube will help her to be successful with her dreams to work in the music industry some day.

I guess even a star in the making can get bored and it’s not always a super fun ride to the top. I don’t see Alex having too many more of these boring days as she waits for her big chance to impress someone in the musical field. Alex can play instruments, sing and even has a desire for composing music too. So all of her options are still in front of her and she has many roads to choose on which one she thinks will make her most happy. I think it’s just a matter of time until the right person sees the YouTube Star and all of her talents and Alex won’t be a star in the making then; she will be a star!

If you didn’t get a chance to wish Alex a happy birthday yesterday, you can leave her a reply on her birthday post at Single Source Writing. We seen what the 15 year old Alex could do and now it’s time to see if Alex can make the next step up and perform even better as we watch the 16 year old Alex. Happy Birthday again Alex!

Rudy Gay Dunk Contest on YouTube

by Chris Padgett on Feb.01, 2008, under Favorite Video

I always love watching the dunk contest during the NBA All Star Weekend. The last few years it seems to be losing some steam, but I like what Rudy Gay of the Memphis Grizzlies is attempting to do. He has posted a challenge to YouTubers to show their sickest dunks and whoever wins his You Tube contest; he will actually perform the dunk in the Dunk Contest. This brings a little excitement to the table and I wonder just which YouTuber will win this.

Rudy Gay Dunk Contest

YouTube Preview Image

There is a lot of interest in this promotion and people from all over the world have been uploading their videos to Rudy. I would like to personally thank Rudy Gay for this and it makes me want to root for the guy in this year’s dunk contest. Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks has major hops and is probably the best dunker in the NBA. I don’t think Josh will be giving it a try out in New Orleans, but this idea by Rudy Gay gives me hope for this year’s dunk contest.

As I am writing this post, there has been 162 video responses to Rudy Gay’s Dunk Challenge. If you would like to get in on the fun, just upload your You Tube video to: RudyGay22SlamDunk over at You Tube. Maybe your video will be chosen and you can see a great athlete like Rudy Gay perform your dunk!

Now Rudy, if your looking in; I have found the best video response by far. I looked through the people that have submitted videos and one sticks out to me. I really like the one You Tuber that said to dunk on a judge. I could just see a legend like Julius Erving (who sometimes does the judging) get dunked on. I thought that was a good idea, but the one video that sticks out in my mind is this one!

Here’s Your Winner Rudy!

We have seen the great ones go between the legs, but to do both legs is amazing. I have the hangtime of a bulldozer and I’m not sure if I could do that just in the air. This guy goes under both legs and is 10 feet in the air rocking one home! This dunk has everything! It’s original and is a dunk you can slam home with authority. Perform this one Rudy Gay and I’m sure the judges will light up 10′s across the board! Not to mention the good folks in New Orleans getting to watch a dunk like this being performed!

Good luck to Rudy Gay and I will be rooting for him this year, just because of his desires to make this year’s dunk contest something to watch. Everybody stand up and clap for an NBA star that cares about the game and everything associated with it. Rudy Gay for this year’s 2008 Dunk Champion!

Someone Sing Jingle Bells with Me!

by Chris Padgett on Dec.24, 2007, under Favorite Video

Will someone please sing Jingle Bells with Alisa Apps? That is what she tries to do in this video she has at You Tube. Alisa Apps is a uniquely talented singer and song writer and she tries to spread the Christmas spirit at one of the busiest shopping districts there is. Her good gestures take place at the Santa Monica Third Street Promenade and you won’t believe the people she runs into. She had a hard time at first, but soon people warmed up to her charm and she was able to get a few notes of Jingle Bells on camera.
