Kid Nation Episode 2

Well I watched another episode of Kid Nation and still not quite sure what to think about the show. I was amazed at the chicken scene though and I guess the 15 year-old kid did indeed chop off the chicken’s head. Now there was so many young people around watching that chicken get its head cut off and it makes me wonder why they didn’t show that on television. The camera turned away from the actual chopping, but you did get to see the kids reactions right when it did happen.

I thought Michael was a great choice for the gold star. Make that bad kid keep working hard, but it appears he’s gonna flip during the 3rd episode (judging by the previews I saw). So I think the council made a good decision there.

What’s up with the green team? They seem to be in a lot of trouble and the youngest team (yellow) keeps beating them in competitions. The water-piping match was a fair one, but you just get the feeling any future competitions will be controlled by the blue team. I think the producers messed up by not telling the kids they would be competing against each other and I think the 40 kids could have got in teams that were much fairer. The kids had a great way of dividing everyone up, but if they knew what was in front of them, they would have never put all the young kids in the same group. Ok, I guess I will have to tune in at least one more week and watch that 15 year-old kid pitch a fit, because he didn’t win the gold star. Hopefully he gets kicked off the show or decides he wants to go home at the next town meeting.

Disneys High School Musical

One of the more popular shows that is on the Disney Channel is High School Musical. It’s been made for television and the kids have been tuning-in all over the country. There is a tour that’s been going around and performing the musical to live audiences. If you have had any troubles getting your High School Musical tickets, then check with Ticket Solutions to see if they can help. They have tickets to a lot of the shows that are all over the country. You can also find tickets with them, for shows that are sold out. So if you want to see this musical in person and you need a ticket, see if Ticket Solutions can find them for you! Some tickets can be found in Canada too.

Kid Nation on CBS

Well the controversial show had its debut last night and it was something different to watch on tv, that’s for sure. The show is called Kid Nation and they get 40 kids together and put them out in the middle of no where. It’s a place where life has failed before from adults and now we get to see if kids can thrive in this place in New Mexico.

In the show the kids don’t get to vote each other off, so it’s different from other reality shows. The kids can stay as long as they want and every 3 days there is a town hall meeting and the kids can decide then if they want to leave or not. Also at these town hall meetings the kids get to discuss all their situations and the town council gets to pick one lucky person to receive a gold star. The gold star is worth 20,000 dollars in real money that the kids will be able to have after their 40 day adventure.

I like the show in terms that it is something different to watch on tv. It is a reality show, but it’s one with a unique twist and makes it worth watching from that standpoint. I’m not sure how many people will continue to watch this show all season long, but I would say they had a big audience last night to show their product to. Not a lot of good things were on television last night in the 8PM slot, so Kid Nation got seen by many. I do think the show might have gone a little too young in their participants and that might be what turns a lot of people away from the show. I think if they would have focused on high school age kids, the results could be a lot better. Maybe taking 5 girls and 5 boys from the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade would be a better cast of characters, than the whiney bunch they have now. Don’t get me wrong, I realize the conditions are tough, but the first night of the show, when the temperatures dropped at night and they were hungry, a lot was ready to quit then. I am only left to believe that the shows producers and people working behind the scenes has made life much more comfortable for them now, because the attitudes had changed tremendously on day 2.

I have got the DVR set to record all episodes of Kid Nation as of right now. I will watch another show or two, but I have my doubts if I will watch the full season of Kid Nation. Great idea by CBS, but I think the cast is a little too young for the conditions they are facing. So much so, that controversy has been preached from a lot of levels and many of the parents can’t comment right now, because of confidentiality agreements they have made with the show. Should be interesting to get the parents take on this show, once the season has ended.

My Name Is Earl

Has anyone watch the show that comes on NBC and goes by the name My Name Is Earl? It sounds like a pretty good sit com to watch they are going to be having a 1 hour show coming up later this month. September 27th is when the show will be doing it’s 1 hour season premiere and I will be tuning in to check it out. There is going to be a new actress on the show for the new season, as I assume Alyssa Milano will be making her debut on the show in late September. If not, she is scheduled to play a part of a parole officer and her character should bring more viewers to the show.

If you have watch this show on NBC, then please let me know your thoughts about it. I just watched Who Wants to be a Millionaire today and one of the questions was asking “Earl has a nickname and it’s the same nickname that his business is on the show; what is that nickname?” If you think you know the answer to this, then leave a reply and I will let you know if your right or not. I would give the multiple choices, but I can’t remember them all. It was one of those questions on the show for a low amount of money, so I’m sure for anyone that has watched the show before, knows Earl’s nickname. Alyssa….If you’re looking in right now, then feel free to guess the answer too!

My Favorite Comedy Shows

MSN did an interesting story on the comedy shows you’re not watching. They feel they made a list of some of the best comedy shows out there that are not getting watched by the public. Here is a list of some of the shows that made their list:

Monk (USA)

Flight of the Conchords (HBO)

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (FX)

Best Week Ever (VH1)

Moral Orel (Cartoon Network)

Reno 911 (Comedy Central)

Kathy Grffin: My Life on the D List (Bravo)

My Boys (TBS)

Now are their any shows up above that you watch regularly? What about any that you might have seen once or twice? Let me know which shows you watch or have watched and your thoughts on them. Is there any show that is listed above that we should really be watching? If there is, then please explain why and what makes you like the show so much.

I have seen a partial episode of the Monk. I did remember liking that show and it might be one on the list that I should be watching. Monk’s character is pretty smart from what I can remember, but he had some type of fear or something that made his character funny. I will have to search for it and record the next episode that comes on, so I can relook at Monk.

Now I have heard of My Boys on TBS. I watch a lot of the Braves baseball games that come on television and see the advertisements for that show. I have never sat down and watched My Boys, but have seen some small clips from the show. It might be one that I will have to record also and see what the MSN story is talking about when it comes to this show.

I have seen Reno 911 a couple of times. It’s been some time since I have seen the show, but it seemed a little too silly for me. The show might be better to watch now since they released their movie on the big screen. It might be a show that I need to watch again if they have changed it up any.

I have never seen or even heard of Flight of the Conchords. I don’t have HBO, so watching this show would be difficult. Now if this show is really good and worth watching, then I would have no problems to subscribing to the HBO network. So let me know if this show is worth an extra 10 bucks on the monthly satellite bill.

Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a show that I’m not familiar with. So any fans of this show or people that have seen it before, can let me know what this one is about. It could be a show that I might enjoy watching and have just never gave it the chance. The same can be said for the rest of the shows like Best Week Ever, Moral Orel, and the show with Kathy Griffin ( My Life on the D List). The cartoon one in Moral Orel is a religious type show or based with religion in that cartoon. It was also mentioned in the same breath as South Park and the Simpsons, so it might be an off-beat type of cartoon show that might not be suitable for children.

Just be sure to let me know of any information if you have on these shows and I look forward to your replies. Also for any of these shows creators or people that have worked on the sets of these shows, then feel free to add to the discussion by replying back. I will approve all comments made on this post within 24 hours.

TV for the Whole Family

If you’re looking for a better way to watch television and maybe you are searching for a cable or satellite provider to bring you a better way to watch tv. It would be helpful to compare all the companies out there and see who is offering the best package for your needs. Comcast has a great special going on with comcast bundles.

Now these bundles from Comcast can give you more than just a lot of great channels to watch on the tube. Which I guess in some cases we don’t have a “tube” anymore with all the flat screen televisions out there now, but that is another discussion for another day. High Speed Internet and Comcast Digital Voice  is a couple of things that you can bundle with your television package. If Comcast is available in your area, then you might want to give them a look before you decide to go with another cable company or a satellite provider. Getting the most bang for your buck is the goal when you are making decisions on your family’s viewing entertainment.

If you are still using dial up, then going to high speed is a must! You are wasting too much time waiting for pages to load on the internet, when you can save that time by upgrading to the high speed internet world. There is no way I could ever go back to dial up after getting use-to the high speed internet services I get currently. Comcast offers you the ability to add high speed internet with your television services and you will only have one bill. It’s the same thing with the phone service they offer. If you take Comcast up on their Triple Play offer, then you will only have 1 bill for the tv, phone, and computer. It’s a very convenient way to pay for everything each month.

The Family Guy

This is a great cartoon that is once again back in a prime time slot on Sundays. I know it use to be there, be never gained the popularity like the Simpsons did. It then got shuffled off to the Adult Swim on Cartoon Network and a lot of people forgot about it. It’s a really good cartoon that is more for the adults than the kids in my opinion.

Now if you like Homer and Bart and the things the Simpsons do, you will love the Family Guy. If have never seen this animated show, then you really need to sit down and watch it sometime. I gurantee it will make you laugh! I’m just surprised when it first came out, that it wasn’t as popular as the Simpsons. It might be the title of the show, and the people that created it, might have not used the best title in the world, but then again the Simpsons isn’t something that just grabs your attention either. Now if you don’t like the Simpsons or South Park, then you won’t like the Family Guy either. This is a show that is similar to South Park and has similar type of comedy.

National Bingo Night in America Over???

It seems National Bingo Night in America has ended their first season on the air. I went over to print out my tickets for this week and it says they have completed the season and no tickets to be printed at this time. I thought the show was gaining in popularity and now they are ending a season? It doesn’t make much sense, since more and more people were starting to get involved.

I’m surprise ABC didn’t rework something out and keep the show going. You can have a seasonal show that allows the people at home to participate in it. I figured a show like this would be new every week. It doesn’t look like it takes too much to produce the show from week to week. I mean they do have a whole week to get it ready. If any of the other networks is reading my message, then this is your chance to cash in. People love when they can interact at home from a television show and would like to see more shows that are similiar to National Bingo Night in America. I think this will hurt the overall success of what this show could have done.

Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?

Have you seen that show? Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader is a pretty good new show that is coming on FOX now. Jeff Foxworthy hosts the show, and some of his reading skills might not be 5th grade level, but he keeps the show interesting. It’s basically a game show that people can win money on. Its fun seeing trivia questions on knowledge that we learned in grade school.

The show came on tonight (Thursday) and had some pretty tough questions. Between 10 and 20, how may squares are between them numbers? How many pecks are in a bushel? Do you know the answers to them? I got the first one right, but I wasn’t a 100 percent positive on my answer. The adult contestant  got that one right too. I didn’t know how many pecks were in a bushel, and I was way off on that one. If you think you know the answers to any one of them questions, then leave me a reply. Let’s see if you are smarter than a 5th grader.

The Simpsons

The Simpsons will always be popular. You can do that with cartoons. You don’t have to worry about them getting older. You won’t have to worry about Bart losing all of his cuteness. Bart will still be Bart, no matter how long the show goes for. Now with real life sitcoms, you can’t always do that. The kids that make up some of the popular tv shows, do age, and will get older. It’s just like Different Strokes, and when Arnold started getting older. He wasn’t as funny the older he got. The Simpsons and other popular cartoon shows will have a time capsule on their characters. So there’s no aging in tv for the cartoon guys.

Everybody Loves Raymond

I was watching Everybody Loves Raymond tonight, and it was a real good episode. It was about Raymond being the captain of a basketball team. Now since Raymond was the captain he was to order the uniforms for the team. He was suppose to order item number 70, but instead he ordered 17. It turns out 17 was cheerleading outfits. So not exactly what he was wanting to order.

Now his team comes over to his house to let him know about the uniforms. The team is causing problems in the kitchen for Raymond’s wife, so she just sends them upstairs to where Raymond is taking a shower. There were several funny things said in the bathroom, but here is one dialogue word for word:

Ball Player: Hey Ray, am I gonna play tonight? I need to know, because I was thinking about bringing a girl to the game.

Ray: Yeah, Alright! Alright! Alright! I’ll play ya.

Ball Player: Ok then, I’m telling her not to come.

I thought that was real funny. It appeared the guy was asking if he was going to play, and if he was going to get to play, then he would bring a girl to watch him. Instead, since Raymond said he would play him, the ball player decided not to bring the girl. So if Raymond would have said that he couldn’t play, the ball player would have brought the girl just to watch him sit on the bench. Pretty funny stuff!

Another Blog of Mine

I have another blog that deals with organic things. I would like to have things that deal with that subject, or just nature in general posted on it. My other blog is called Organic4all. If you are someone that enjoys nature or maybe have a desire to help keep the environment clean. Then I would really like to see you post some things on this blog.

I’m just now getting started on it, and really wanted to start putting some more posts on it. I’m also still open in what general direction I want it to go in. So any suggestions, on some topics that I could focus more on, or that might could be of a service. Then feel free to let me know. If you think they are too few sites that give us tips on perserving the environment, or don’t talk about growing your own foods enough. I’m really trying to find a void that is out there, and filling it.

Global warming is a subject that is dear to my heart. I fear where our world is headed with global warming. So that will be a popular topic over at my new blog. I do see that being a bit of a void in our world today. Not enough world leaders are getting on board, and trying to solve the problem. Also, I think the quality of water is something I will talk a lot about. Our lakes, oceans, rivers, and streams are all getting more polluted, as we just keeping building in places where trees were. This all takes a toll on our water supplies, and it’s mind boggling to think of all the things that could be affected by water pollution.

So just any tips, suggestions, or ideas that you think might can help me with organic4all, I would greatly appreciate it.

Baseball Cards

I am a big time baseball card collector. I have tons of them, and other sports cards too. I have basketball, hockey, football, and even some Nascar cards. Now I look at my baseball cards as investments. If you are not familar with the sports card industry. Then you probably aren’t aware of how many peope today are buying baseball cards for investments. It can be compared to school pictures for your kids, to give you an idea on what cards will be worth a lot of money, and which ones are not. Let’s take 2 students that are in the first grade. Now their 1st grade picture would be considered their rookie card in the sporting card world. If one student becomes a very successful lawyer and makes a lot of money one day. Then that student’s 1st grade picture or rookie card would be worth a lot of money. If the 2nd student, was to drop out of high school and work as a fast food worker. Then the 2nd student wouldn’t have a valuable 1st grade picture. The first student would have many school pictures that would be worth money. Their 5th grade picture,  would be worth a little something. However, the further you go back and the older the picture is, would make it more valuable. Now if you manage to get a preschool picture of that student, then look out! It will be more valuable than the 1st grade picture.

So that’s an idea of how the baseball cards work in value. If a major league baseball player does well in his career. Then his rookie card will command some type of value. If you have seen Alex Rodriguez for the Yankees this year, then you would probably like to have 1 or 2 of his rookie cards. Also, if Barry Bonds breaks the all time home run record. Then his rookie cards, and all cards with him on it, will take a jump. Barry looks like he is going to be the new home run champ. So now is the time to look for a few of his baseball cards.

Monthly Dividends for Stocks

Searching for stocks that pay dividends is easy with all the resourcses that are available today. If you reinvest your dividends, then your shares will grow more quickly. While most stocks pay their dividends quarterly, they are some that pay theirs monthly. I have made a list of some of these companies that pay dividends monthly. You can really increase the amount of shares you have, if you have stocks that pay dividends monthly.

Now just because they pay the dividends every month, does not mean they are a good company, and that I recommend them. I’m just giving you a way to keep your portfolio interesting. It’s fun seeing the dividends get paid to us. Seeing just exactly how many more shares are added to our amount, through dividends. I do recommend owning a couple of these on the entertainment level. It’s always a good idea to have a portfolio that is very well spread out over many different companies. For the small investor, I would not recommend putting more than $2,000 in any one stock, unless you own at least 6 other companies. Now one mutual fund is ok, since it’s already diversified. If you want to pick one stock, and just invest in it, so you can see your shares grow more quickly. Then that is fine, up to the 2,000 dollar mark. Once you get there, you need to find another stock to invest in. Once you own at least 6 stocks of 2,000 dollar value, then feel free to go back and invest more. You can then take it to the 5,000 dollar level in each stock. Just diversify yourself as much as possible, then you will be able to sleep better at nights.

All Eyes on Vegas

It’s gonna be a magical night in Las Vegas tonight. Oscar De La Hoya will be taking on Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match that will be watched all around the world. These two are pretty evenly matched. Mayweather is a little faster, but De La Hoya is a little tougher. Should be interesting to see who will prevail when the smoke has cleared.

Many stars are expected to be at the boxing match tonight. I think that plays a factor in this fight, and the fighters will have to have nerves of steel. They are both in tip-top condition, and no injuries to report. So there should be no excuses for which ever one of these fighters that should lose. I think every boxer from Maine to Hawaii will be tuning in and watching this too. The fight has drew a huge audience with the media promotions, and the boxers appearances on all the big prime time shows. It’s gonna be a wild night in Vegas, that’s for sure!

Greensburg, Kansas

I would just like to send my prayers and thoughts out to the community of Greensburg, and the surrounding areas. I see complete devastation has taken the city, and where they can go from here, only God knows.

If you haven’t heard, a massive tornado, that some are reporting it was bigger than a mile wide. It went through many towns in Kansas, but none hit harder than Greensburg. Most of the homes and businesses are leveled. All of this destruction was in the night, and only the daylight would prove what everyone had to go through that night. I have been through some tornados myself, but nothing like what the folks of Greensburg had to endure.

The noises of the jet airplane engine are what most is describing the sound of this tornado. Now there were several tornados that went through, and at this point they just don’t know. It’s possible there might have been more than one to hit Greensburgh. One of the best descriptions I heard, was when it was lightning in the dark. They said the whole town was pitch black after the tornado had left. When lightning would light up the sky, they said they could get glimpses of the horror they would have to deal with as the sun came up this morning. I could just imagine seeing them glimpses, as it was lightning.

The state of Kansas, and the town of Greensburg is going to need a lot of help. If you know of any ways to help, or live in the nearby area. Then please do something to help this town rebuild. It’s going to take a lot of people working around the clock, to even get this looking like a town again.

Bowling

Bowlilng is a pretty fun sport. I guess it’s something that is good for all ages, and men and women both can do it. It’s really great when you can go to the lanes that have the bumpers for the kids. Some will work automatically, so when it’s their turn, the bumpers will come out. Then go back in, when an adult or older child bowls.

I been in a few bowling leagues before. I found them a lot of fun. Now i’m not really that good or nothing. They will give you a handicap in most of the bowling leagues. So you can compete with the really good bowlers. I have seen some bowlers that can come close to getting a 300. I think my highest score ever was a low 200 something. Just don’t forget about bowling, when your looking to take the family out for something. It’s not the cheapest thing in the world to do, but it’s worth the money for the fun you will have.
