Somewhere In Time – A Classic Chick Flick

by Chris Padgett on Aug.04, 2010, under Favorite Movie

Post contributed by Fletcher Vargas

Being someone who enjoys time travel movies a great deal, it’s not a big a shock that Somewhere In Time is one of my favorite movies. It’s a great chick flick and every time that I see it on free satellite tv, even though I own the DVD, I always end up watching it again.

The movie stars Jane Seymour and the late Christopher Reeve as the two main characters. Reeves character, Richard Collier, sees a painting of a beautiful woman and becomes intrigued, even though she lived almost a hundred years ago. He ends up traveling back in time and they fall in love with one another. The ending will shock but I won’t give away any more of the plot.

If you are looking for an old-fashioned, period romance to watch with girlfriends on movie night this is a wonderful gem of a film. It is still shown on TV quite often even though it’s an older movie. My recommendation is to grab some snacks, get some girlfriends together and be ready for a few tears. Somewhere In Time is a classic chick flick!

Last Weekend at the Box Office for Movies in July

by Chris Padgett on Aug.01, 2010, under Favorite Movie

Top 10 Movies for the last weekend in July.

1. Inception

2. Dinner for Schmucks

3. Salt

4. Despicable Me

5. Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore

6. Charlie St. Cloud

7. Toy Story 3

8. Grown Ups

9. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

10. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Have you seen any of these top 10 movies? All of them are currently playing in most theaters nation wide. I haven’t seen any of them yet. The one I see being advertised the most on television, is the one called Dinner for Schmucks. This comedy does look pretty funny and I think I would enjoy watching it.

I recently saw the first Twilight movie. I thought it was an excellent movie and puts the fictional town of Forks, Washington on the map. Or is there really a town in Washington called Forks? It’s true, there is a town in Washington that goes by the name Forks and I’m sure the whole town is behind all of the great Twilight movies.

I believe there have been 3 Twilight movies done so far? Is this correct? I’m not sure what the 2nd Twilight movie is called. Maybe one of my readers can help me with that one. I think the 3rd Twilight movie is Eclipse and it is currently playing in theaters. It just barely hung on to the top 10 list for the July movies in their final week.

I look forward to some great movies coming out in August. I think fans will be excited too; when they get a chance to preview some of these new movies. I will talk more about the new August movies in a later blog post. Please let know any other information, about these exciting movies that go by the name of Twilight. The first Twilight movie is a must-see movie for everyone. I really enjoyed it and I think most people would. Now I need to go learn more about the number 1 movie Inception. I want to see what the Inception movie is about and if I might want to see it one day.

New Karate Kid Movie a Success

by Chris Padgett on Jun.14, 2010, under Favorite Movie

New Karate Kid Movie

The new Karate Kid movie that is currently in theaters is on its way to a huge success in the movie industry. The movie’s star is Jayden Smith, who is the son of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air or Will Smith. If Jayden continues to land big roles like he did with the remake of the 1984 Karate Kid movie, he won’t be known for being Will’s son for too much longer; as he will carve out his own name in the film industry. I hope to see this movie soon, because I did hear it was worth the price of admission. It does look like it would be a pretty good movie, judging by a few of the previews I have seen.

I even think the cast and crew of the original Karate Kid movie would give these guys an applause on the job they did with the remake of the movie that starred Ralph Macho and Arnold (Pat Morita) from Happy Days. The teacher, who was played by Pat Morita, in the first Karate Kid movie died back in November of 2005. He has a very interesting story growing up with all of the health problems he was suffering from in Northern California. Now his memory can continue to live on in the great roles he played in during his time in Hollywood. I think most would agree that Jayden Smith will be just as popular and successful as Mr. Miyagi was; considering the head start this youngster has got with his movie roles and the TV appearances he has made on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and All of Us. Please feel free to leave your reviews or opinions about the new Karate Kid movie that is now playing in theaters nationwide.

Freddy Returns to Do Another Nightmare on Elm Street

by Chris Padgett on Apr.24, 2010, under Favorite Movie

New 2010 Movie with Freddy Krueger

You thought the nightmare was over? Well I did and I’m sure millions of others did too. However, this is Hollywood we are talking about and we all know money is the King at the end of the day. That money will come in the form of horror and your lead guide will be none other than Freddy Krueger. The new 2010 movie Nightmare on Elm Street is set to hit theaters next Friday on April 30th. I probably don’t have the time or money to catch this one in theaters, but I know a lot of Nightmare on Elm Street fans will show up to watch. I will have to wait for this one to come to satellite or I might fork out a little money to watch it on Pay Per View. I love the Nightmare movies. My favorite Nightmare on Elm Street was the first one. I think the original Nightmare on Elm Street was one of my top 5 greatest horror movies of all time. Since this new movie in 2010 carries the same name as the first Elm Street horror flick, we may just see a recreation of the first movie? I didn’t want to read too much of the details on it to find out. I like to be surprised and I still have 6+ months to wait on that surprise, since I have no immediate plans to go watch Freddy Krueger in theaters on April 30th or any of the later dates. Do you plan to watch the latest Freddy movie? What is your overall thoughts on the series of movies that call their self the Nightmare on Elm Street movies? I do know that Freddy has got more funny as these movies progressed over time. From the previews they’re currently showing for the April 30th Nightmare on Elm Street, I don’t see any comedy yet. I’m sure he’s got some great lines in there, but maybe they decided to go back to more scary than funny?

Alvin and the Chipmunks are Back

by Chris Padgett on Apr.07, 2010, under Favorite Movie

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Alvin and the Chipmunks. All opinions are 100% mine.

The gang’s all back and now you can take them home! That’s right, you can now get Alvin and the Chipmunks at home on DVD, Blu-ray, or download it from your computer in digital quality. You can buy it now and get the double DVD pack which will contain Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakquel movie and also get The Squeak Along bonus disc! This is a great way to take advantage of the 2nd Alvin and the Chipmunks movie; for those fans that couldn’t get enough of the first Alvin and the Chipmunks movie.

Alvin!

You can hear Dave now screaming at the Chipmunks, but mainly Alvin of course. I grew up with the Chipmunks and always loved them. I use to have a big poster in my bedroom that had Alvin and the Chipmunks on it. I use to own their album Urban Chipmunk that had black borders and Alvin in the middle dressed up like a cowboy.  He was standing up on a bar stool and sipping some drink from a straw at the bar. Some of the songs on that album was I Love a Rainy Night, The Gambler, Coward of the County, and On the Road Again. This came out in the early 1980′s and it was my first introduction to Alvin and the Chipmunks. There was also a cartoon that would come on Saturday mornings that featured Alvin and the Chipmunks. Now we don’t have Saturday morning cartoons, since cartoons can be seen 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Not as much excitement for the younger generation to watch those Saturday morning cartoons like we use to do back in the 1980′s.

Parents wanting to keep the Chipmunks memory alive or want to share this singing treasure with their kids, can get the double DVD pack and have the ability to watch it over and over as many times as you want. You can also go online and enjoy more More Munk Mayhem with your kids. It was a little sad to see Alvin and the Chipmunks vanish there for awhile, but now they are back and their characters have came to life in these new Hollywood movies.

New Movies Topping the Charts

by Chris Padgett on Mar.01, 2010, under Favorite Movie

The past weekend’s box office results is quite different from what we have been use to. This is the way the top 10 movies came out of the latest box office scores.

1. Shutter Island

2. Cop Out

3. The Crazies

4. Avatar

5. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

6. Valentine’s Day

7. Dear John

8. The Wolfman

9. Tooth Fairy

10. Crazy Heart

Have you seen any of those top 10 movies? I still haven’t seen Avatar yet and it’s hard to believe this movie is still making the top 10 list. It must be a really good movie and it’s had more success than any other movie in box office history. I do think Shutter Island would be a good movie to see and I can see why it’s currently number 1 at the box office.

There are a few more good movies set to make their debut this upcoming Friday. This week’s debuts will be headlined by a classic story and one that many of us know. The name of this movie will be called Alice in Wonderland. Other movies that will start this Friday in theaters will be Brooklyn’s Finest, The Secret of Kells, and Stolen. So this weekend is a good time to go see movies that made the top 10 last weekend or to see one of the new movies that will be coming out this Friday.

Last Weekend of Movies for 2009

by Chris Padgett on Dec.30, 2009, under Favorite Movie

The movie industry has set new records this year. As a whole the movie industry reached 10 billion dollars and this is the first time this mark has ever been reached. There were some really good movies in 2009 and it would be hard for me to name a top 10 list. Instead of focusing on the best movies for the 2009 year, I think I will spotlight the movies that finished in the top 10 for the last weekend in 2009.

Avatar Movie

No big surprise to see which movie was on top. Avatar was the leading movie at the box office this past weekend. It looks like it took a lot of money to make this movie and now the investors associated with Avatar are reaping the rewards from their creation. James Cameron did an excellent job with Titanic and pulled that movie off nicely in the 90′s. He now finishes the new decade off with a big-time Hollywood movie and people are paying money to see the new Avatar movie.

Top 10 Movies for Last 2009 Weekend

1. Avatar

2. Sherlock Holmes

3. Alvin & the Chipmunks

4. It’s Complicated

5. Up in the Air

6. The Blind Side

7. The Princess and the Frog

8. Nine

9. Did You Hear About the Morgans?

10. Invictus

A couple of true story movies making the top 10. I do love my true story movies and the Blind Side may just be the best movie in 2009. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I have been hearing really good things about it. Some have even said the Blind Side is the best movie they have ever seen. It’s great this movie had so much success and I would like to see more Hollywood movies that showed how some of these athletes went from rags to riches. All professional athletes in the NHL (hockey), MLB (baseball), NFL (football), and NBA (basketball) are making a king’s ransom each year. I’m sure there is a lot more success stories out there and hopefully with the popularity of the Blind Side, we can get a chance to see more movies like this. The other true story movie is also sports related with the South African rugby team and it’s called Invictus. I love true story movies and I am a big sports nut too. So true story movies based on sports will always get a thumbs up from me.

Probably the most surprising thing about the movies in 2009 is the fact they did set an all-time record in sales at the box office. The world-wide economy has been in the news a lot in 2009 and how we are all struggling to make ends meet and no one has a job. A bad economy leads to the greatest showing ever for the movies industry is a little shocking. No matter how hard times get, it seems we will still go see the movies we want to watch in the theaters. I wonder with the economy predicted to be better in 2010 if we will see a new record next year. A lot will depend on which movies come and how many blockbusters hang around at the theaters. An early glimpse now at the movies slated for 2010 and I don’t see it being that big of a year in the movie industry. At least not a 10 billion dollar year; where each month the industry would need to be pulling in close to 1 billion dollars a month. I guess we will have to wait and see, but I think we skip a year and 2011 will be the new record that breaks the 2009 movie record.

New Movies Topping the Box Offices

by Chris Padgett on Dec.01, 2009, under Favorite Movie

It’s been a good season for movies. Some really good movies are now playing and this would be a good time to take the family to the theaters. I know there is at least a half of dozen movies I would like to see right now. I’m sure you have 1 or 2 that you would like to go and watch too. Here is the way the movies came out of the box offices this past weekend:

1. The Twilight Saga: New Moon

2. The Blind Side

3. 2012

4. Old Dogs

5. Disney’s A Christmas Carol

6. Ninja Assassin

7. Planet 51

8. Precious

9. Fantastic Mr. Fox

10. The Men Who Stare at Goats

The most attractive movie on the top 10 list is 2012 to me. I think this would be right up my alley. I love the Aztecs Calendar and how it predicts the end of time. Apparently our world is going to end in another 2 years in December of 2012. This movie touches on that historic calendar made by the Aztec people. The movie playing at theaters is not a true story, but does mix a blend of truth and non-fiction together and gives us a scenario for our last day on the planet Earth. Do you think the world will end in December 2012? I guess no one really knows the answer to it, but it has sure done well at the box offices and this new movie 2012 is going to be a heavily watched movie for the next month at theaters. Do you see any other movies on the top 10 box office list that you would like to go see? There are a couple of movies that are based on true stores like the Blind Side and the Men Who Stare at Goats. I would like to watch both of these movies. The true story movies are the best ones and Hollywood needs more of these types of movies.

Jim Carey Wins at Weekend Box Office

by Chris Padgett on Nov.09, 2009, under Favorite Movie

As predicted by yours truly, the new movie from Jim Carey called The Christmas Carol took away top honors at the box office this past weekend. It was a good sign for this new movie as there was some other movies that made debuts on Friday and it wasn’t easy to get number 1 this past weekend. There is a lot of good movies playing in theaters right now, but none of them could catch the new 3D Scrooge movie that started November 6th in theaters across the nation.

Jim Carey - Christmas Carol

Number 2 on the box office list was Michael Jackson’s new movie This Is It. His fans continue to buy tickets for his latest work on the big screen and just about anything Michael Jackson is always popular. It is surprising to see Michael Jackson at number 2 with the Fourth Kind making it’s debut in theaters this past weekend. I expected the Fourth Kind to be higher on the box office results, but there was actually 3 movies that did better than it. The Fourth Kind is a true story movie about alien abduction and another true story movie about goatswas the 3rd place finisher at the boxoffices. The Men Who Stare at Goats was inspired by actual events and it’s the number 3 movie in America right now. It should be interesting to see how round 2 does for these two true story movies.

Top 10 Box Office Movies for November 6th Weekend

1. The Christmas Carol

2. This Is It

3. The Men Who Stare at Goats

4. The Fourth Kind

5. Paranormal Activity

6. The Box

7. Couples Retreat

8. Law Abiding Citizen

9. Where the Wild Things Are

10. Astro Boy

Does any movies look good on this list to you? I would like to see most of these movies. I would really love a chance to see the new Jim Carey movie in theaters; since it is done in 3-D technology. A Scrooge Movie in 3D sounds like a good one to see and I’m sure it does great justice for the ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and the ghost of Christmas Future. This would be my first choice, if I got a chance to go see 1 movie at the theaters right now. My main reason for this decision is because the movie is done in 3-D and I love this type of technology with movies. Paranormal Activity and the 4th Kind are high on my movies to watch list too.

Upcoming Weekend Movies Hot

by Chris Padgett on Nov.03, 2009, under Favorite Movie

We shall see if This Is It can continue at number 1 this weekend as some new movies hit theaters nation wide. The biggest may be The Christmas Carol with Jim Carey. This new 3D movie with Jim Carey should be the new number 1 movie, but we will have to see how some other new comers do too. The Box and The Men Who Stare at Goats are two more new movies people will have to choose from at the theater this weekend. That right there is a nice list of new movies to go along with the new Michael Jackson movie and Paranormal Activity which has done well at the box office the last few weeks. There is still another movie that should draw a lot of interest and it’s The Fourth Kind. This movie may be the next Blair Witch Project as it tries to display itself as a true story movie about alien abduction.

Which new movie would you like to see the most?

A. Jim Carey’s Movie The Christmas Carol

B. The Fourth Kind (True Story Movie on Alien Abduction)

C. The Men Who Stare at Goats (Inspired by True Events)

D. The Box (Cameron Diaz Thriller Movie)

I think all 4 of these movies would make great choices this weekend. The Christmas Carol has a huge advantage over the other 3; since it would be more suitable for young children. If the kids go to the theaters this weekend; then Jim Carey should easily take the top spot away from the Michael Jackson fans who have packed the theaters for his new movie This Is It. A lot of buzz about the Fourth Kind and if it’s Internet popularity carries over to the box office; then the Fourth Kind should rank 2nd this week at the box offices. It will certainly be interesting to see how this weekend’s top movies play out. Other movies making their debuts will be: Precious; Collapse; and Splinterheads

The Fourth Kind Movie – Alien Abduction

by Chris Padgett on Oct.26, 2009, under Favorite Movie

In 1972 a scale was created to measure our contact with UFO’s and aliens.

First Kind – Sighting

Second Kind – Evidence

Third Kind – Contact

Fourth Kind – Abduction

Now a new movie focuses on the 4th kind and it’s called the Fourth Kind. This 2009 movie is a fact-based thriller that takes actual events from patients who went under hypnosis and experienced their alien abductions. These stories have been compiled together and the basis for the new true story movie called the Fourth Kind.

Fourth Kind Movie

This looks like a good movie and one that I would like to see. I am just wondering how far this movie goes and how much we can learn after watching it. The movie is set in Nome, Alaska and people are going missing in Alaska and nobody knows why. Some believe it is a government cover up and they are the ones responsible. The Government blames the high alcohol rates on the people that are turning up missing. While the 2009 movie The Fourth Kind touches on the alien abduction angle.

Some believe this latest movie is set up more like another Blair Witch movie. Blair Witch was a movie that we all thought was real and that we were looking at actual film footage of young people roaming around in the woods. The Fourth Kind is positioning their self as a real life story and the first ones to see it, are under the assumption that it is real and these are true events taking place.

It will be interesting to see how things turn out. One good thing is that the people who are really missing and no where to be found; new light will get shed on this Alaskan Mystery and we can hopefully find out the real reasons why. The Net is really buzzing right now about the Fourth Kind and searches have seen a sharp increase over the last few days. It’s looking like this movie will create as much attention and talk around the water cooler as the Blair Witch Project did several years ago.

Do you plan to watch the new 2009 movie called the Fourth Kind? People fascinated with aliens, ufo’s, and life on other planets will probably want to make plans to see this one. I would like to hear some feedback from the people who have already seen this movie, so please be sure to let me know what you liked or didn’t like about the movie. The release of this movie is set to open in theaters on November 6th, 2009. There does appear to be an audience right now for this movie, since Paranormal Activitywas the top movie this past weekend in theaters. More people wanted to see Paranormal Activity than the latest Saw movie and Saw VI ranked 2nd at the weekend box office.

New Christmas Carol Movie with Jim Carey

by Chris Padgett on Oct.21, 2009, under Favorite Movie

It looks like Disney has another winner coming out in theaters this November. The new Christmas Carol movie with Jim Carey looks great and this new Disney movie will be in 3-D too!

Jim Carey has played in some good movies and he’s even did a few holiday movies. I think his new 3D movie about the classic Christmas story a Christmas Carol is going to be huge at the box office. The new Christmas Carol movie in 3 D technology will debut in theaters on November 6th. This will be the first time fans of Christmas movies can see this latest production from Walt Disney moives.

Christmas Carol

Have you seen the previews yet? It looks like it will be a really good movie and this will be a movie that the adults and kids will all enjoy. I’m sure most of us have seen many variations of A Christmas Carol and now we get to see it in 3-D. I think the 3D aspect does give it that extra bit of excitement to the movie and I can’t wait to put on my glasses and watch this movie. I plan on taking my twin 4 year old nephews on the day this movie comes out; which will be November 6th. I’m not sure who will enjoy the movie more (them or me), but I think all 3 of us will have a good time. Jim Carey is going to be playing the main parts of all the characters in the movie, so that is another thing to look forward to. He will be playing the grumpy old Ebenezer Scrooge; while also playing the ghost parts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Future. I know we know how the story line goes and the way it will end, but every Scrooge movie I have seen puts their own little twist to it and those are the parts I look for.

One thing that I love about the older Christmas Carol movies is the bed of Ebenezer Scrooge. I would love to have a bed like his and it looks so comfortable. A bed that has 4 high posts and a curtain that wraps around it. I’m not sure what the bed will look like in Jim Carey’s new movie, but I’m sure they will stay true to form and get the bed that has the high posts and curtains.

As exicted as I am to see The Christmas Carol with Jim Carey this November, it’s actually 2nd on my list on the movies I want to watch in November. There is another big movie coming out on Friday the 13th in November and I hope I get a chance to watch it in theaters too. Do you know what movie I am referring to? I will blog about it later on and reveal my top choice for new movies in November, but for now my excitement level is very high for this new Disney movie that will be focused on Scrooge. I think this movie will be a huge success and it will probably remain playing in theaters for the rest of the 2009 year. I couldn’t imagine them taking this new 3D movie down before Christmas Day. It should be a good holiday movie for those families that go to the theaters to watch a movie on those family get-togethers on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Saw VI Coming October 23rd

by Chris Padgett on Oct.13, 2009, under Favorite Movie

 SAW Part 6 Coming Soon!

Saw VI Movie

Listen up Saw fans and those seeking their thrills from movies. The Saw series has a new installment coming out October 23rd! This will be the 6th time fans get to see this mad man put his victims through a series of life and death challenges they must figure out to survive. These movies are all intense and I don’t expect any less from Saw VI when it makes it’s way to theaters in late October.

This latest Saw movie is just in time for Halloween and people that like to watch scary movies during the Halloween holidays will have a new one this year. I think the new Saw movie will do better than the other 5 have done at the box office. There are more theaters open now; since Saw 5 was in theaters and couple that with the Halloween holiday and you have a cash cow at the theaters! I’m not sure what other movies will be making their debut on October 23rd; but look for Saw part 6 to be the top draw at the box office.

Do you plan to watch Saw 6 when it comes out in theaters? Do you let your teenage kids watch these types of movies? I find the Saw movies interesting and I will be sure to watch it; when it comes on satellite TV. I don’t like them good enough to pay money at the theaters and not sure how the newest Saw movie will compare with the other ones. I found the first Saw movie and Saw IV or Saw 4 as the best two out of the 4 Saw movies I have seen. I haven’t watched Saw V or Saw 5 yet; but will have to see if it’s playing on the movie channels right now. It wasn’t too long ago when I saw part 4 in the Saw series and I thought Saw IV was really good.

Which Saw movie have you liked the best out of the ones you have watched so far? Did you get a chance to see the first 5 Saw movies that have came out yet? If you haven’t ever watched a Saw movie before, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal if Saw 6 was the first one you seen. I would recommend to most people that you at least watch the first Saw movie, so you can understand how these movies work. They are a unique concept in horror movies or thriller movies and it is refreshing to see that someone out in Hollywood finally had an original thought. As for naming the best Saw movie and the one I like best, I would have to give props to the original one and my vote is for Saw I as the best Saw movie in the series so far. I would rank Saw 4 as the 2nd best Saw movie and I really didn’t like Saw 3 or 4. If you have only watched one Saw movie and didn’t like it, I bet it was Saw 2 or Saw 3 that you watched. I’m not the biggest Saw fan in the world, but in my eyes these guys are 2 for 4 right now and batting 500. I will have to watch Saw 5 to see which way I lean overall on the Saw movies.

How many Saw movies?

Michael Moore Scratches at Box Office

by Chris Padgett on Oct.08, 2009, under Favorite Movie

MichaelMoore

Michael, Michael, Michael is all it seems we are hearing these days in the news. A lot of Michaels making headlines and are any of them news worthy? We have heard from A-Z about the news of Michael Jackson’s death and that is one story that isn’t going away anytime soon. In Philadelphia we are hearing about the Eagles newest QB Micheal Vick and his return to the NFL. Between Michael Jackson and Michael Vick is there really any room left for another Michael in the news?

Well the latest “Michael” story is coming from Hollywood and it’s Michael Moore’s new movie Capitalism: A Love Story. This new movie from the controversial Moore came out on September 23rd and I still haven’t heard much about it. I did notice that this movie is still hanging on in the top 10 movies at the box office and that surprised me. This past week, Michael Moore’s new movie got 8th place at the box office. No matter if you like him or hate him, his movies do tend to get us talking and I hope his new movie continues down that road. I have actually thought a couple of his movies were pretty good and I usually do sit down and watch them when they are released for viewing on the movie channels I get on satellite TV.

It seems most people don’t like his movies because they have inaccurate information and feel he is choosing one side of the political party. I actually just see him taking shots at the American Government and really don’t see him drawing party lines. I don’t know what his political choice is when choosing between Democrats and Republicans, but we do need voices in America standing up for what they believe in. He may not always go about it in the best ways, but at least he is out there sharing his ideas and opinions and that is more than most of us do. I get angry and upset at certain things, but have no idea who to talk to or complain about my disputes with the Government. It seems the latest news on health care has got people speaking up at public forums in their local cities and hometowns and I think this could be another Michael Moore movie in the future. I have seen Sicko and know Moore gave his fans something there but this latest news on health care is really stirring folks up.

If you have seen the new Michael Moore movie and would like to comment; then please do. I would like to hear some opinions on the Capitalism: Love Story movie that Michael Moore has just created and see how his latest work stacks up with previous Michael Moore films. It should be interesting to see which Michael makes headlines next. I wouldn’t be shocked if we find out that David Letterman’s real name is Michael and the Letterman scandal makes it’s way into the Michael Jackson, Michael Vick, and Michael Moore headlines too.

Tribute to Patrick Swayze

by Chris Padgett on Sep.17, 2009, under Favorite Movie

Patrick Swayze

We got some sad news earlier this week; when we found out that actor Patrick Swayze had lost his fight to pancreatic cancer. He was one of the greats in Hollywood and Patrick Swayze has a long list of very good movies. I’m sure his fans took the news hard this week that he would no longer be with us and that we would not ever see any new Patrick Swayze movies.

I really hope a TV network will do a marathon soon to remember the talented actor, that starred in so many great movies. You could ask any group of people what his best movie was and you would get a variety of different answers. There isn’t just 1 movie that everyone could agree on as his best and this is because he played in so many good Hollywood movies. I would like to take a poll and see what my readers see as his best movie ever.

What Is Your Favorite Patrick Swayze Movie?

A. Dirty Dancing

B. Ghost

C. Road House

D. Red Dawn

E. The Outsiders

I think most would consider one of these as his best movies. Next of Kin and Tall Adventures were two more good Patrick Swayze movies; along with Grandview USA. The last movie Patrick Swayze was in was Powder Blue. The 2009 movie Powder Blue was full of big stars like Kris Kristofferson, Ray Liotta, Jessica Biel, Lisa Kudrow, and Forrest Whitaker.

Patrick Swayze Ghost

Who will ever forget this scene from the movie Ghost where Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore made pottery together. The song Unchained Melody played in the background of this famous Patrick Swayze movie scene.

And no one will forget the famous Patrick Swayze movie line “nobody puts Baby in the corner” from the movie Dirty Dancing. There were just so many great movies that featured this talented actor and he will be remembered for a long time. He was taken away from us much too soon at the age of 57, but his work through movie films will long live on.

Final Destination Tops All Movies

by Chris Padgett on Aug.31, 2009, under Favorite Movie

The latest box office results are in for this past weekend and it was The Final Destination that took the highest honors. This is the movie everyone (or most) people wanted to see in the last weekend of August. You may know this movie by another name and it was the 4th installment to the Final Destination movies. I think Final Destination 4 has a chance to do great things at the movies; since this latest one is in 3D. A 3D movie is always fun to watch and I think the experts are getting better with the 3D technology. I haven’t seen the 4th Final Destination movie yet; but would like to go see it in theaters right now. You can get a better experience seeing it on the big screen and I may just have to take a day off this week and go see this hot new movie.

Final Destination did get the top spot at the box office; while Inglorious Basterds finished 2nd. It was Halloween II that got 3rd place in the standings and rounding out the top 5 movies were District 9and G.I. Joe. The box office results show some really good movies in those top 5 spots and all seem like a movie that would be pretty good to watch. Another movie that caught my eye in the top 10 movies was Taking Woodstock. I think Taking Woodstock would be an interesting movie to watch and it looks like it has some good comedy scenes in it.

Is there any movies currently playing that you want to go see? Which movie would you watch if you only could pick one?

I don’t see any spectacular movies opening this upcoming week. I would have to put Sandra Bullock’s newest movie as the one I would like to see most that will start playing this Friday. The name of her new movie is called All About Steve and it will be a PG-13 movie that falls under the comedy category. If you like Sandra Bullock and want to laugh a little this weekend; then All About Steve might be the perfect movie for you. Enjoy your time at the movies and don’t forget the extra butter on the popcorn!

Latest Box Office Results for the Movies

by Chris Padgett on Aug.12, 2009, under Favorite Movie

1. G.I. Joe

2. Julie and Julia

3. G-Force

4. Harry Potter

5. Funny People

6. The Ugly Truth

7. A Perfect Getaway

8. Aliens in the Attic

9. (500) Days of Summer

10. Orphan

Does any of these 10 movies interest you? These are the top 10 movies that movie-goers wanted to see this past weekend. Not a lot on that list I care to see and the blockbuster summer movies are beginning to wind down now. I’m not sure which summer movie caught my eye the most this year, but Hollywood did do a good job with their summer selections this year. Orphan is number 10 on the list and that movie is as attractive as the rest of the list to me. Perhaps my movie taste is a little different than yours and you see a few on the list you would like to watch.

New movies that open this weekend aren’t that great either (in my opinion). The list doesn’t have any clear-cut winners and here are some of the new movies that start on Friday:

* Bandslam

* District 9

* The Time Traveler’s Wife

* The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard

* Grace

* It Might Get Loud

* Ponyo

* Spread

* Taxidermia

If you like a good funny movie; then The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard might be the one you want to see this weekend. I have seen this movie heavily advertised and it might be the top movie from the list of new movies debuting this weekend. The box office timing might just be perfect, since the kids are back in school now and we might see an increase of teens going to the movies this weekend. When you factor in the kids and the heavy advertising; The Goods may just put up a nice number in its openning weekend.

If I was going to the movies this weekend, I would probably select the Orphan over any of these movies, but chances are I won’t be standing in line for any of these movies. There just isn’t any that grab my attention and I do hope upcoming movies get more attractive soon. The movies now playing do tend to lean toward the youth and I think it is a good time for the kids to go see a movie. I’m sure they will be several choices they would like to watch this weekend. It’s just not that great for the adults, but the kids that are now back in school, may have some luck finding a movie they like.

Kim Jong Ill and Bill Clinton

by Chris Padgett on Aug.06, 2009, under Favorite Movie

The picture of the North Korean leader and Bill Clinton was just too funny. You could see a drastic size difference in the two men and it made me think about that movie Team America. I love the part in that movie where he is singing about being lonely. After seeing his photo with the former U.S. President Bill Clinton, it made me think about that song in the movie.

Clip from Team America

YouTube Preview Image

It was good to see Bill Clinton take action and rescue the Americans that were being held hostage in the northern part of Korea. It’s clear that the White House was not going to take action and the task fell in Bill Clinton’s lap. Great job there Mr. Clinton and I’m sure the families of those two women were very thankful for your efforts. Barrack Obama and his staff right now don’t have a clue what’s going on and not sure why they are not doing more to help Americans right now. Obama has already spent 6 months in office and hasn’t accomplished anything yet. Very unusual to see a new President with no desire to make an immediate impact with his philosophy on politics. I don’t think we will see another 4 years of Obama and this is assuming we still have a country in 4 years.

Oh well, now about that photo. Here is the photo to show you the size difference of Kim Jong Ill and Bill Clinton.

You would never believe that the guy on the right is a leader of a nation in the 21st century. Where does North Korea go from here? They are reaping the benefits of Clinton’s visit, but not sure how long this will last for a country that desperately needs food and supplies to maintain a normal life-style in the controversial North Korean land.

Latest Results from the Box Office

by Chris Padgett on May.25, 2009, under Favorite Movie

The top movies now playing at theaters are as follows:

1. Night at the Museum

2. Terminator Salvation

3. Star Trek

4. Angels & Demons

5. Dance Flick

These are the movies people wanted to see over the Memorial Day weekend. I’m sure there was an increase in sales across the board as the longer weekends usually give people more time to watch a good movie. These movies look pretty good judging by the previews and it should be interesting to see which ones remain in the top 5.

The Night at the Museum looks like a funny movie. It also has a very interesting appeal to see all of these characters from the past come to life for one night. I guess it is just for one night based on the title of the movie, but I haven’t gone to see this one yet. It did very well over the long weekend and this was the top movie in America that people wanted to see.

Monsters vs. Aliens didn’t make the top 5 at the box office, but this movie has did better than any other movie in 2009 so far. It does remain in the top 10 box office sales and it finished at number 9 for this past weekend. The X-Men movie is also staying strong at theaters and it placed in the 6th position.

I hope I get the chance to go see some good movies soon, because this has been a great year to visit a theater or the drive-in for a top notch movie. I haven’t been to a good drive-in since I was a kid. I would like to visit one that is located about 60 miles from me. I think they only show the older movies at this drive-in that is located in Blue Ridge, Georgia. I will have to double check on that or if there is anyone that lives around the North Georgia mountains could tell me if the drive-in located in Blue Ridge shows recent movies or movies that have been out for a year or so.

Two new movies start this weekend that might challenge these top 5 movies. Up and Drag Me to Hell look like solid contenders. Also starting this weekend will be Departures, Pontypool, Pressure Cooker, and What Goes Up. Let me know if any of these new movies coming out interests you. I have watched a few previews on television about these new movies and one or two of them do look like they would be good. Enjoy your visits to the theater or the drive-in this week and be sure to let me know what you go to see.

Star Trek Tops Box Office Sales

by Chris Padgett on May.13, 2009, under Favorite Movie

No big surprise last weekend on which movie was the most seen. The box office sales kept going and going for the new Star Trek movie that made a big splash and is now the number 1 movie in America. I haven’t seen it yet, but it does seem to be a good one and the Star Trek fans are pleased. This movie goes back to the early days and you get to look at things from the beginning. I’m sure it’s an interesting movie and even though I’m not a big Star Trek fan, I would like to see the latest movie that started playing in theaters on May 8th.

The number 2 movie and last week’s number 1 is X-Men Origins: Wolverine and this movie is really doing well. The Wolverine is the most popular comic book character ever and this was decided back in March of 2008. It seems movie goers like the Wolverine and they are turning out in bunches to get a look at this one. I would also like to watch the X-Men and see what all the hype is about here. I don’t fully understand the story of the X-Men, but it seems everyone likes this new movie a lot.

The 3rd most popular movie playing in theaters right now is Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. 2nd week in a row that this movie has did well at the box office and it looks like someone finally got a new, creative idea in Hollywood. I do get tired of all the movies that have the same story line and they just have different actors or actresses playing the parts.

Rest of the movies making the top 10:

4. Obsessed

5. 17 Again

6. Next Day Air

7. The Soloist

8. Monsters vs. Aliens

9. Earth

10. Hannah Montana The Movie

I would have thought Next Day Air would have finished higher in the standings, but this just proves how good the movies are right now. It looks like Miley Cyrus barely hung on over the weekend and her new movie Hannah Montana is clinging to the 10th spot. Monsters vs. Aliens has been very strong ever since its release and this movie just keeps racking up the numbers.

Surprisingly Disneynature got the 9th spot on the list with their new movie Earth. This is a documentary and you don’t often see this in the movies. Maybe we have a more educated generation growing up before our eyes and that’s the reason Earth made it up to number 9.

angels-and-demons_tom_hanks

Tom Hanks is the headliner this week and he’s been on all the talk shows and early morning shows promoting his new movie Angels & Demons. I could see this movie jumping over Star Trek for that number 1 position in the box office sales. Tom has did some really great movies in his career and I’m sure this one will be another solid performance from his long list of spectacular movies.

Other movies starting up on Friday will be; The Brothers Bloom; Big Man Japan; The Big Shot Caller; Daytime Drinking; Management; Not Forgotten; and O’Horten.
