Herbstreet Says USC QB Future 1st Overall NFL Draft Pick

by Chris Padgett on Sep.07, 2009, under Blogging

Right on cue and as usual the bias of the ESPN announcers toward the USC Trojans didn’t take long. Kirk Herbstreet said on GameDay Saturday that the true freshmen quarterback playing for USC Mat Barkley would be a top overall pick in the NFL draft 3 or 4 years from now. The guy had not even taken his first snap on the football field and Herbsteet saying he’s a number 1 overall NFL draft pick is just ridiculous. You get this a lot with ESPN and Kirk Herbstreet when it comes to their bias and overrated views of the USC program.

USC isn’t a top 10 team or even a top 20 team in the country. Ohio State who is their toughest game this year isn’t a top 10 team either. The guys from Navy almost sent the game into overtime with the Buckeyes last Saturday and neither team belongs in the top 10 rankings. The USC Trojans was actually losing after the first quarter to San Jose State and this performance was from Matt Barkley. He had 5 opportunities to score against their scrimmage game and couldn’t do it in the first quarter. The USC team of 2009 is no different than the team of the last 10 years and they are all over ranked.

Any team can win the big game and they are the only college in the country that gets multiple attempts at the Big Championship Game in college football. Kirk Herbstreet claims of Matt Barkley being a top overall pick when even Mark Sanchez couldn’t beat a southern boy from Georgia in the latest NFL draft; when the Detroit Lions took Matthew Stafford from Georgia.

Kirk Herbstreet needs to focus on his current job and do that right. He was announcing the “impact players” in the game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Virginia Hokies Saturday night in Atlanta and said a guy’s last name totally wrong. He wanted to say that David Wilson was an impact player, but Herbstreet called him “David Nelson” and even went on to tell us to look out for this guy. He didn’t even get no snaps or was on the field very little. Kirk Herbstreet is not doing his normal job right and his USC ties is getting in the way of his job.

During the Aflac Trivia Question, Kirk Herbstreet made the comment to ask him this next week, because he knew he would be doing the Ohio State Buckeye and USC game. Well you know what Kirk? America could care less about the USC/Ohio State game. Two over ranked teams playing sloppy football is not what we want to see. We want to see real teams like the one you had at the Georgia Dome on Saturday, but couldn’t even do your job properly there, because of your rosey glasses for the USC team.

ESPN needs to take these bias announcers like Kirk Herbstreet off the air and there is no room in college football for guys like this. College football is based on influences and guys with a voice like Kirk Herbstreet mis-use their powers and that’s why we see a true freshmen QB taking snaps for the 3rd ranked team in the standings.
