Atlanta Falcons Land 4th Best Back in the League

by admin on Mar.10, 2008, under Blogging

While some speculation has came out recently about the Falcons passing on a quarterback and taking the sensational talent out of Arkansas Darren McFadden; it appears the Falcons extinguished all of those rumors and landed one of the top 5 running backs in the league. His name is Michael Turner and if you haven’t heard about him or heard much, there is good a good reason why. He was unfortunately playing on the team that has the top graded back in the league in Ladanian Tomlinson. So any running back is going to have a hard time getting carries if he has lightning bolts on his helmet. The only two running backs grading higher than Michael Turner is Adrian Peterson of the Vikings and the questionable Ricky Williams from South Florida. Ricky is also projected as a back up with the Dolphins, as Ronnie Brown will get the majority of carries right out of the gate, but the experts are banking that Ricky Williams has the best 2nd half of the season as anybody in the NFL for the 2008 year.

It’s been a long time since the Atlanta Falcons have enjoyed a top-notch-back. You can count a couple of Jamal Anderson and Gearld Riggs seasons in there, but even these two don’t compare to Michael Turner. He will be mentioned more in the company of William Andrews, who has been the greatest Atlanta Falcons running back ever.

Now if that brings back memories, just wait until you see him on Sundays in the dirty south. Going to high school in Illinois, then to North Illinois as his college choice and being the diamond in the rough for the San Diego Chargers as they landed him in the 5th round, there has only been one way to describe Mr. Turner. No matter where he goes everyone has said the same thing; that the 5′ 10″ running back is like trying to tackle a bowling ball. He will certainly have his chance now with the Atlanta Falcons not having a quarterback ready to play and having no wide receivers, means the 2008 season is riding on Turner’s shoulders and don’t be surprised if he delivers! If he stays healthy, he could very well be right there with Ricky Williams as the top two backs in the league going down the home stretch of the 2008 season.
