For those of you that travel a lot, probably get tired of having to clean-up all the time in the motels and hotels you stay in. Showering and washing your hair can take up a lot of your time and its probably time you would prefer to save out on the road. I have got a kite that I am going to fly with my twin nephews, as soon as we get one of those good windy days. They just turn 3 years old in December and they are now at that age; where they want to get everything or be a part of everything. I think they will get a kick out of seeing a kite go up in the sky. They will probably get a bigger kick when they see me get that kite hung in a tree. I’m sure that is what will happen, because my luck with kites haven’t been great. I have either ran out of string and the kite flies off in the sky or I finally the only tree in a big open field. I will be happy if I get just put the darn thing together.

I’m not looking for the hurricane gusting winds to fly my kite in. Just a good 15 to 20 mph breeze to get the kite started with. Usually once you get the kite about 20 feet in the air, your good to go. About 20 to 30 feet from the ground seems to always be in that jet stream type wind, where its always gusting. The weather is on the warm side right now, so I hope within the next week or so, we get a pretty good day for winds.

For all the guys out there, I thought I would give you the heads up about Valentines Day. We are just a little over a month away and now is the time to start saving for that gift or looking for something to buy. I guess if you’re going to get your sweetheart a box of candy or some flowers; you might not have to worry about saving any money. For those guys that spend a little extra and go for the diamond pendants or the gift certificates from her favorite store, you might want to start putting a little money back now. If anybody has a girlfriend or wife that has a birthday in January, that is probably the best case scenario. You can get Christmas, birthday and Valentines Day all taken care of in a short amount of time and you don’t have to worry about forgetting it. You might want to think about a wedding date during this time too, so you can cover your anniversaries too; if you’re not married yet!

How I miss my days of playing Texas Hold’em with the boys. Me and a friend use to go out and play poker at a restaurant. It was pretty fun to do and really didn’t cost a lot either. You would pay $10 to get in and they would let you buy more poker chips for $5 up until 9 PM. Once that time came, they would make an announcement abou the last buy-ins. Most of us would usually buy more chips if we needed them or not. Just so we could play Texas Hold’em in the wee hours of the morning. Most of these poker tournaments would last past midnight.

Now it is illegal to gamble in the state of Georgia, like it is for most states in the U.S.. So the way they would do it, is to give away food vouchers for your entry fees. You would be playing for a bar tab basically and it was ok to pay with vouchers like this and would be considered illegal gambling if cash was paid to the winners. If I remember correctly I think they just paid the top 2 players and the final prize to the winner would be based on the number of people that played in the poker tournaments. Sometimes we would start these tournaments with only about 5 or 6 people playing and sometimes we would have as many as 25 playing. I won a few of these tournaments, but really only one big one. There was 24 players in the one big tournament I won. This might not seem that big to you, but for an amateur poker player like myself, it was quite an accomplishment to beat 23 other players out of a poker game. I couldn’t miss that night and my hands were just really good and I had no part in the tournament win. There was no bluffing or magical bets I made to pull off the win, I just kept getting good hands over and over. There was always someone that would stick with me and that was key to me winning it all. If everyone would have been more patient and waited until my luck ran out, they could have beat me on my inexperience. I think that is the biggest key to winning in poker and especially for a Texas Hold’em poker tournament, is to just be patient. Wait for those hands to find you, but try your best to always see the flop!

Did you make any goals this year for getting in shape? Maybe some people out there got exercise equipment for Christmas; with the intentions of living a healthier life in 2008? Well I wasn’t one of those people. Maybe I should be one of those people, because I do weigh about 180 pounds and I’m 5 feet 10 inches tall. I have a little extra weight that goes over my belt buckle. I just don’t have the desire to get out there and work off the pounds in a vigorous exercise program. I would probably be better off with a job that had more physical activity; than just typing on a keyboard all day long.

I would like to hear about your exercise programs or goals that you might have set for your self in 2008. Please be sure to reply and let me know what’s going on with you and maybe share any past exercising attempts that went wrong or just didn’t go at all. I have started a few dozen different exercise programs over the last decade or so, but I just always lose the desire to keep going. I do think it’s good for all of us to start one from time to time, even if we don’t go through with it or meet any of our goals. All the exercise you get, no matter how small it might be, can go a long ways in helping us live longer lives.

Being a single guy today with no kids, never been married and doesn’t have a girlfriend is pretty hard to find. It isn’t for me, because I just happen to be that guy. Now I have always thought that I would get married and have kids and do all the normal things a family man does. It just hasn’t worked out for me yet and now as I am in my mid 30’s; I’m not so sure I will ever get married or have kids.

I have noticed that the women just get better looking all the time. I can’t wait to find one that actually likes me! I have even noticed that the pregnant women look very attractive. I’m not sure if it’s the way the new maternity clothes look or if the women are just getting more attractive as I get older. Maybe I am just getting more desperate to find that one girl that’s for me? I know I have been too picky over the years and that’s one big reason I’m still single right now. I have a hard time just going out on a date with a girl if I don’t think she is marriage material. Might sound strange, but now every time I see a girl giving me a stare or a smile, my first thought is “could I marry this girl”? Another problem I might have, is actually giving my eyes the time to stare at all the attractive moms-to-be and not looking for the women that might actually be single! Oh well, I will continue my path down single life for now, but there just has to be someone for me in this over-crowded world we live in.

We finished the year off strong in Georgia with our rainfall defecit. The last few days of 2007 gave us enough rain to avoid the worst year for rainfall ever in the state of Georgia. So we had a lot of hope coming into the 2008 year, but our weather pattern once again turned dry on us. It looks like we are going to be in some serious trouble when we get into the August and September months of late/end of summer. We need rain now in the winter to help fill up some of the lakes, rivers, creeks and other tributaries that are so important for us to gain water from.

We are experiencing a rainy night in Georgia now and this is some relief from our dry situation. The rain has been falling for most of the evening and its even been hard at times. So we are getting a pretty good rain soaker right now and this comes on top of a few showers we had 2 nights ago. So we have the soil good and moist right now, so now is the time we need for a big snow storm or rain maker to rear its head in Georgia and we could really get some run off right now. I haven’t looked at the 5 day forecast and seen if anymore rain was on the horizon, but if we can get another big shower before the weekend ends; we can say this week as been a very productive one and about a dozen more weeks like this one and the good people of Georgia might have enough water to last them through next winter!
