How many of you have ever heard of the Tampa Yankees? You might know them better as the New York Yankees. Its the same team, but during the spring time of the year, many people in Florida call them the Tampa Yankees. Yankees Spring Training tickets aren’t that easy to find either. New Yorkers might think they have a hard time finding tickets for Yankee Stadium, but Legends Field in Tampa doesn’t have as many seats and there just about as many requests for tickets to see their Tampa Yankees play.
I really like the area around Tampa Bay, Florida. There is a lot to do in the Tampa area. Last time we were down there we checked out the greyhound track, Tropicana Field where the Tampa Bay Devil Ray’s pro baseball team plays, the Pirate ship at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Stadium for their NFL team and Legends Field where the Yankees have spring training at every year. All of these things are close together and you could just about walk to each place if you had to. Even with the pro fields that are around Tampa Bay, there is just something special about Legends Field. That place just seems to have some magic like Yankee Stadium does in New York. I would highly recommend going to a Yankees spring training game if you were down there that time of the year. You will see the locals there and people that have traveled from the Big Apple to be there. I think some New Yorkers and die-hard Yankee fans travel with the team south every year and just grab a Yankees Spring Training Schedule so they can see every game their Bronx Bombers play at Legends Field. There really isn’t a bad seat there, but if you plan on taking in a game there, you will want to get your tickets early!

I am going to play trivia tonight at Jocks and Jills. Jocks and Jills is a sports bar and they have the typical menu items for a sports bar. I have never been to one before, but I have heard about their food from others. I look forward to trying their food for the first time tonight as me and my nephew are going to go play trivia there. I hear that the trivia is really tough there and my nephew is only 15 years-old, so we might not fare too well tonight. I was mainly wanting to go check it out and see what it was like to play trivia there. So my thinking cap is on and I hope we can manage to get a 3rd place prize. They do give prizes for the best 3 teams there, so you just have to finish 3rd to get a prize. The prizes are probably bar tabs or some type of discount they will give you, the next time you go and eat there. You don’t win real money, it’s just money that you can put toward your next bill. Most sports bars that have trivia will pay out $50 to first place, $25 to second place and the 3rd place team would get a $10 bar tab. Our chances of placing 3rd tonight are pretty slim, but I still enjoy just getting out and playing trivia.

2007 Picture of the Year

After all the votes were counted, this is what people voted as the Picture of the Year. This was done by the Today Show on NBC. This photo sparked a lot of controversy, but you can just look at the picture once and know the message behind it. I assume the woman didn’t lose her car keys and is probably grieving over a husband that got killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. I don’t know any truthful details about this photo, I am just assuming it’s her husband. The deceased person may be a relative, neighbor, co-worker or just a family friend. I think most see that picture and determine its her husband and he probably lost his life; while fighting the war on terror.
Our troops are losing their lives everyday on foreign soil. Its important we never forget their sacrifice and we remember them and photos like this. There’s too many politics being played out and we debate everyday if we should be in places like Iraq. I think we should support our troops more and work more as Americans instead of Democrats or Republicans. Let’s never forget all the troops that have died over the years and those that died in 2007. We will probably have deaths to deal with in 2008 too.
The death toll was down in the month of December and hopefully that number continues to decline. Some think Iran is a big part of the decline and they may not be training militants on their side of the border. We need all the help we can get and even if we don’t see eye-to-eye with Iran, we hopefully can continue to expect them to help us in the fight on terror. I hope this women finds comfort that is in the picture and all the women and children can find comfort, that have lost parents and loved ones in the war on terror.
