A 5 year-old boy in Arkansas killed a bear Sunday. Now that might seem like a pretty amazing headline right there, but wait…..the story gets better! It just so happens that the boy from Arkansas that killed this 400 pound black bear on Sunday is a relative of Davy Crockett! This is a true story and according to the grandfather, he spotted the bear and told Tre Merritt (5 year-old boy) to shoot the big black bear that was coming out of the thickett. That is exactly what Tre did and he killed the bear.

Now Davy Crockett killed his bear when he was only 3 years old. That is the way legend tells the story, but Tre’s grandfather doubts Davy killed a bear when he was only 3. Now Davy Crockett is the 10th great grandfather of Tre Merritt and I guess we would expect this from one of Davy’s kin folks. Tre’s dad said he killed 3 deer last year and that’s a pretty amazing story too. I just can’t imagine a 4 year old boy killing a deer. I have never shot at a dear and here is a 4 year -old boy in Arkansas killing them left and right.

If Tre’s legend holds up for as long as his great grandfather’s legend has, then you can expect that Tre will be a pretty popular man in his lifetime. I’m not sure where a 5 year-old that kills a bear can go from here, but I wouldn’t be surprise if he shoots a dinosaur or something big like that before he reaches puberty. That’s just an amazing story from Arkansas and I thought I would share it with you. Nice job Tre!!!

I’m not sure what the best ways are on how to quit smoking. I was going to see if anybody had any good ideas on how to stop the nasty habit. Does chewing gum help? The people that I have known to stop smoking really didn’t have any plans. They just stop smoking cold turkey. Has anyone ever tried the patches or gum that are suppose to help you quit smoking? I really haven’t heard too many positive things about the patch or gum. I think these things work on the brain and they try to block those impulses in the brain that make people want to smoke. So if you have ever tried to stop smoking or you did stop, please be sure to offer some helpful hints and suggestions on how to stop smoking.

The Hickory Log Dam in Canton is waiting for some rain, so they can begin burning some of the timber they have cut around the dam. The Hickory Log Reservoir is going to help the City of Canton and Cobb County on the desperate water needs of Georgia. The dam was suppose to be built by the end of 2007 and now it looks like it will be completed sometime in 2008. The area of North Georgia could really use some rain and this Hickory Log Dam is going to help relieve a lot of our water concerns in Cherokee and Cobb County. That is if the dam can ever get completed. It’s funny how we need rain to help finish building the reservoir that is expected to be pretty big and help us during droughts.

Hickory Log Creek will be one of the sources of water that will begin filling the reservoir up. They are also going to be pumping water out of the Etowah River and this will help the reservoir to have a good supply of water. The Etowah River is down right now and it might stay that way for some time, until North Georgia starts to get an adequate amount of rain. You can see pictures of the Hickory Log Reservoir Dam on an earlier post I made in this blog. Hopefully for the residents of Canton and Marietta, the dam will get built soon and we can start backing up some of that precious water that is running down stream each day that passes.

I love to eat mexican food. Over the last few years we have had an increase in all the mexican restaurants in my city. We have more than a dozen restaurants located in my city that serve mexican food. It’s great to have a choice and a variety to choose from, when I do decide to go get mexican food. I usually just call in my order and go pick it up. I like the fact that even on the call-in orders, they will still give you the tortilla chips and salsa with your order, like so many mexican restaurants do.

One of the closest mexican restaurants to my house in Canton, Georgia is about a 2 or 3 mintue drive away. I think they are 3 mexican places that are within 3 minutes of driving from my house. One of those has the best salsa with their tortilla chips and it’s extremely hot. The name of the place is something like “El Caporal” or something like that and they are the ones that have the hot salsa. Their food is very authentic mexican food and it’s usually my first choice, when I decide to call me in an order. I usually get one of their combination platters and it comes with a beef burito, taco, refried beans and rice. I like to take thier hot salsa that comes free with the order and add it to my burito and taco as the hot sauce. It really has a good flavor to it and it’s the salsa that makes the meal so good. I can usually handle hot and spicy foods pretty well, but there salsa is on the extreme hot side of things. So you wouldn’t want the kids eating their salsa.

Dos Hombres is another good choice for mexican food in Canton, Georgia. There are two locations and their food is not as authentic as El Caporal’s is, but it’s usually the taste that most Americans will like best, when eating their mexican food. I usually get their beef burito too and it will come with the similar items like a taco, refried beans, rice, etc…

I’m not sure where one is at now, but the food at El Torro’s is really good too. There has never been an El Torro’s in Canton, but I would be willing to drive a long distance to eat their food. It’s probably some of the best mexican food I have ever ate. I have only tried one location and it was the one that was located on Highway 5 and Barrett Parkway Intersection. That El Torro’s is no longer there and I haven’t found where another one is located yet. I think they are a chain mexican restaurant and I hope if I do ever find another one, it will be as good as the El Torro’s that was in Marietta.

The beef burito is my main choice of food when I do go to a mexican restaurant. I really like Del Taco’s beef burito’s and they are one of the few mexican places where you could get fries with your burito. We don’t have any Del Tacos near us anymore and I’m not sure where they all went. I really wish they were more Del Tacos located in Georgia. I’m not sure if there is any Del Taco’s in Georgia anymore. I haven’t seen one in years, but I will keep my eyes out for one, anytime I travel around the state any. Ok, I am making myself hungry now, I think I will have to give the guys a call so they can start making my beef burito.

You can see her singing in a lot of her videos and also you can see other videos that capture the talents of the Youtube Sensation. I think it’s just a matter of time until we see her singing on a stage like American Idol or acting in a show on the Disney Channel. It should be interesting to see just where this talented teen from Mexico goes from here.
