Do It Yourself?

Well some of the hardware store commercials we see on television today, encourage us to “do it yourself”. I’m not sure that’s always wise. We had a bad experience by doing the job ourselves and it was in an effort to save money. We wanted to build a deck on to our house and decided to do it ourselves and buy the cheapest materials possible. We wasn’t concerned with how it looked, just something sturdy to stand on. The first year it was fine, but apparently the wood we chose wasn’t good for more than that. We notice the wood was beginning to get weak and our deck was already suffering termite damage. The treated wood was more expensive, but we wanted to save money, and that was a big mistake. I guess knowledge is power and we certainly didn’t have it; when we decided to build our own deck.

So we had to finally bring in a real builder and use real wood and it cost us more all together, than if we had just did this to begin with. There is also a helpful DVD at DoItYourself.com and I think if we would have had a video like this, we could have prevented our errors. I would recommend getting this video before you take on any home projects. You can also find a lot of articles and helpful information in the forums at DoItYourself.com. Even if the upgrades are temporary and you are just making them, so you can increase the value of your home, you still want to be sure you do it right. If you sell your home with just a few touch-up jobs here and there, you can dramatically increase the value of your selling price. Be sure you do it right and know exactly what materials and how to do it; before you even begin your projects.

Bionic Woman

Well NBC showed it’s new show the bionic woman on Wednesday night. It was an average debut and the 3 or 4 really good scenes that were there, had already been shown in the previews. So they will be some pressure on this show to deliver on it’s 2nd epidsode and maybe they can cut the good scenes out of the previews. I haven’t seen any previews for the coming week so I don’t know what they are showing right now. I’m sure I will get to see these soon before Wednesday gets here.

I’m not sure I’m sold on the concept of the show. In the old Bionic Woman and 6 Million Dollar Man, I don’t recall anyone being as powerful as Lindsay Wagner or Lee Majors. NBC’s new show the Bionic Woman is having another female on the show, who is just as powerful or more powerful than the Bionic Woman. The other one is up to no good and will be the enemy, so you get to root for the good Bionic Woman. I will give the show another episode to jump to too many conclusions, but I think it would be best only to have 1 bionic woman and no one else close to her bionic powers.

Elton John #4 Song

This is the list of the 5 greatest songs ever done by Sir Elton John. I have already got number 5 up and now I get to bring you the 4th song on the list. This is a song that might have got lost in the shuffle a bit. It was played on a few select radio stations from time to time, but a movie came out a few years ago that brought the song back in the spotlight. If I would have did this list 10 years ago, I would probably have left this song off. Thanks to the movie that featured this song, it was fresh in my mind and it really is one of the top 5 songs Elton John has ever done.

Be sure to let me know how I’m doing on the countdown. How would you rank the top 5 songs ever by Elton John? So witho further ado, here is number 4 on the Elton John countdown.

Moving Blues

Is there anyone out there that actually enjoys moving? I’m not talking about going to a brand new city or state and making a whole new start for yourself, but the actual moving process itself. It seems like all your furniture is made out of steel and just no way to get a lot of stuff on the old pick up truck. I hope I have moved for the last time and don’t have to ever do it again.

If I do ever move again; I will be sure to hire a moving company. I think it would be so much easier watching the movers tote my heavy furniture around. One good place I could look into would be homebulletin.net and take advantage of their resources. This is a completely FREE service and they offer moving tips too! They can hook you up with the moving company that is best for you, even if you need one that does interstate moving. You will be able to look over their quotes and determine which moving company is for you. If you need storage or your car transported; then they will include those services in the search for your moving company. So I think if moving ever comes up again in my lifetime, it’s going to be the movers pushing that refrigerator up those stairs and not me!

Kid Nation Episode 2

Well I watched another episode of Kid Nation and still not quite sure what to think about the show. I was amazed at the chicken scene though and I guess the 15 year-old kid did indeed chop off the chicken’s head. Now there was so many young people around watching that chicken get its head cut off and it makes me wonder why they didn’t show that on television. The camera turned away from the actual chopping, but you did get to see the kids reactions right when it did happen.

I thought Michael was a great choice for the gold star. Make that bad kid keep working hard, but it appears he’s gonna flip during the 3rd episode (judging by the previews I saw). So I think the council made a good decision there.

What’s up with the green team? They seem to be in a lot of trouble and the youngest team (yellow) keeps beating them in competitions. The water-piping match was a fair one, but you just get the feeling any future competitions will be controlled by the blue team. I think the producers messed up by not telling the kids they would be competing against each other and I think the 40 kids could have got in teams that were much fairer. The kids had a great way of dividing everyone up, but if they knew what was in front of them, they would have never put all the young kids in the same group. Ok, I guess I will have to tune in at least one more week and watch that 15 year-old kid pitch a fit, because he didn’t win the gold star. Hopefully he gets kicked off the show or decides he wants to go home at the next town meeting.

Bloggers Unite For Abuse

bl_unite_logo1.jpg

September 27, 2007 is the date that anyone that has a blog can use it toward abuse. We are launching a campaign about abuse and bloggers have the choice of which abuse they want to blog about. So many bloggers are already blogging about child and animal abuse and I thought I would take on one that might get left out. It’s the abuse of driving on our roads. Road rage is just too much and something we don’t need in our society. You can read more about my thoughts on road rage and abuse on our roadways at my other blog Connect06. Christmas Thoughts

Yeah I do know that we are still at September, but it’s never too early to start thinking about December 25th. I think it’s always fun to see what will be the new fad for this Christmas. There always seems to be some sort of doll, video game, or toy that will capture the kid’s hearts, but only a limited supply will be out there. So it sends parents off in a shopping rage to get that popular gift for their kids. For the parents that get it for their kids, they become instant heroes. The other parents are left to think up new christmas gift ideas and how to try to limit the damage control. I haven’t heard of what the fad or fads will be this year, but I’m sure we will be hearing that information soon. So if you’re a parent that has failed in the past, be sure to listen up in the next couple of weeks and you will see what the new hot toy will be this year. Maybe the extra time in preparing to get this item for your child, will increase your chances of not failing anymore! Merry Christmas!

Hickory Log Creek Dam and Reservoir

photo-hickorylcdam3.jpg

The Hickory Log Dam is coming along nicely, as it is almost complete in Canton, Georgia. The Dam will stop up an area of water that is expected to be around 5 billion gallons of water! That will cover about 411 acres of land that is presently dry right now. While the lake will offer many benefits to the residents of Canton and Cobb County, like drinking and recreational activities, I do have concerns for what they might be burying under the water.

The Hickory Log community is a very rich part of the natives that was in this area. A big Indian population thrived in the Hickory Log area and there is no telling of all the valuable artifacts that might remain in that 411 acre area. Once they start to fill up the reservoir, it will be filled up pretty quickly, and the current time frame is for the end of 2008 for the lake to be at maximum levels.

photo-hickorylcdam2.jpgphoto-hickorylcdam1.jpg

The growth and what the local commissioners have been approving lately have led Canton to need a reservoir like the one they are building. It’s become too much for a lot of the residents that have lived here their whole lives. Many are currently seeking new homes north of Canton and would like to escape the booming growth that is occurring in Canton, Georgia. Some of the desired locations have been Nelson, Jasper, Talking Rock, Blue Ridge, Dahlonega, Fairmount, Chatsworth, Ellijay, Dawsonville, and other places like this that are a short drive from Canton. Since these locations are so close to Canton; if many of the residents do go packing to some of these North Georgia communities, it makes you wonder how long they will remain a desired destination. It could cause the residents of these communities to seek shelter in more of a “country-lifestyle” and would probably start crossing the Georgia Borders. So while it might seem like a good idea to build this 411 acre lake for drinking water, it’s reach will be felt as far north as Tennessee and the Carolinas and it’s really sad to see these areas affected, when they will receive no benefits from the reservoir whatsoever!

Dell Computers

If you have never owned a Dell Computer, you might be missing out on a quality product. I have found that the Dell Computers and customer service you get from them is the best out there. I really like the things Dell offers and something as simple as Dell Memory is easy to add to your computer. Customer service is hard to find with any products these days, or should I say “good” customer service. The folks from Dell offer great customer service and it’s free too! Some of their competitors charge for their technical support you get, when you need assistance with your computer. Please make sure you keep the tech support in mind when you buy your next computer!

Falcons Locker Room Meltdown

The lockerroom in Hotlanta is heating up and tempers are beginning to flare. If you think the Atlanta Falcons are having trouble on the field, with their 0-3 start to the season, it gets worse in the lockerroom. Sources are saying that several Falcon Players and Coaches were involved in a shoving match in the lockerrom after the loss to Carolina on Sunday. Apparently D’Angelo Hall was in the middle of it all, but he’s not the only one causing disruptions off the field.

The guy that has a sparkling reputation with his charity works and well-liked by his peers in the NFL; Warrick Dunn has been speaking up on the Falcons 2007 Season so far. However it appears this goes back to last year too; when Dunn was speaking up then. He wants to be a bigger part of Atlanta’s attack on offense. His vocal comments to the team’s coaches has got back to the players and some of the players on the Falcons are looking down on his vocal comments.

There is one thing that the Falcon players are acting as a unit with and that is their concerns for head coach Bobby Petrino. They fear that he isn’t prepared for a head coaching job in the NFL and they go on to say that he has made countless mistakes in practices and in games. None of the players are willing to blame the coach for the 0-3 start and think that the head coach is only slightly involved with the bad start. They do know that there is no way a coach like Petrino will ever lead a team to a Super Bowl victory in the NFL. One player from the Falcons has stated that “you have to be so perfect to win a Super Bowl, yeah, there are a few little things that you can get away with, but for the most part you have to be mistake-free to win a Super Bowl”.

As a fan of the Falcons it’s really been amazing to see just how much the 2007 Falcons team looks, compared to the 2006 Falcons team. Especially when you watched this team in the preseason, there was no signs of a new man in charge. You would think that with a new coach that the preseason would be handled differently from the past few seasons, and there was nothing that had changed from the way the Falcons conducted business in the preseason. This leads me to believe that owner Arthur Blank or GM Rich McKay is having influence on the coaching staff and that Petrino is a puppet on a string for someone within the organization. I’m sure it’s similiar to the Dallas Cowboys situation and how many feel that Wade Phillips is the puppet on the string for the Cowboys team. Stay tuned and I will try to get more information on the off-field troubles that D’Angelo Hall and Warrick Dunn are creating in Atlanta.

Working Man’s Feet

The working man needs his boots. So many great choices of work boots are available at MetBoots.com. They carry a large selection and many of the brands that you know like Dickies, Dingo, Durango, Georgia Boot, Laredo Western Boots, and so many more. I have had my share of the working man’s feet and I know how important good boots are. I know the steel-toe boots have saved me a lot of pains, because they are good for protection when you drop something on them.

Now the hard part will be trying to choose just one pair of boots to get. I suggest going to a boot store and trying them on before you purchase them online. Once you learn what pair feels confident, then you might want to come back to your computer, because they are cheaper online compared to most places that sell work shoes. I think my next pair will be the Georgia Boots 6 inch Renegades and the price is less than $100! I like a boot that can be worn at work or just to wear out on a casual dress evening for going out-to-eat or to the movies. So having a versatile boot is important to me.

Georgia @ Bama

A good border war is about to happen in Alabama. My Bulldogs roll in to the Crimson Tide land with 1 loss in the SEC already and that came against the South Carolina Gamecocks. I think Mark Richt is on the hot seat in Georgia with questionable decisions he has made during his tenure here. I don’t see another Division 1 college hiring this guy when his career is over in Athens. This will be a big game for him and his coaching staff.

The Bulldogs have a great young team and you figure one of these weeks it will all click and they will be a contender for a National Championship. Nick Saban is very overrated at Alabama and while I root for Bama on days they are not playing Georgia, I think they could have found a better head coach. I like my Dawgs to win this game in Alabama tonight that will be on ESPN.

USC number 1? I think not! They beat Nebraska which was supposed to be an impressive win. Then Ball State took them to the wire and actually should have won the game. I mean if Ball State came within 1 point of beating Nebraska, just how is that an impressive win for USC? Only other non conference game that they were suppose to have trouble in was with Notre Dame. Notre Dame got beat bad again today and still have not manage to win their first game of the year yet. I think the national media better start to focus on the SEC and ACC teams more and realize the best football is played in the south.

Runway Airport .vs. PC12 Plane

Some amazing film footage from one of the steepest slopes on a runway at an airport. Watch this PC 12 plane motor down the runway and take off from a towering mountain. You also get to see the plane come back in and land and I would imagine that is the most difficult part. I give the pilot of this PC12 plane a 10 in courage, but maybe a 2 in stupidity. The airport gets a 10 in beauty, but a -10 in safety for the pilot and the plane.  I give a 10 for the music selection in this video, because it fits the video perfectly. So be sure to have your speakers turned up to hear the great music with the video.
