My Favorite Blank

The Braves got back on the winning track last night against the St. Louis Cardinals. However, the same old story continued for the 3rd baseman for the Braves in Chipper Jones. The guy just doesn’t want to hustle! I’m not sure why when every game is so important to the Braves right now.

First off, he once again flied to centerfield with a runner at 2nd base and no outs. He continues to do this and swings at pitches early in the count to get his fly ball to centerfield. All you have to do is put the ball in play on the right side of the field and allow that runner to get to 3rd base with 1 out. It’s not getting done and you have to hold Bobby Cox responsible for continuing to allow this to happen. You must give up yourself sometimes and it doesn’t matter who you are or who you think you are.

Then later on Chipper hits a towering fly ball that hits off the wall deep in the outfield. Runners were on base and sprinting to the plate. The throw goes into homeplate trying to get a base runner out and it was unsuccessful. However, the non-hustling Chipper Jones only manages to get to 2nd base on the play. There is no excuses for this and I refuse to purchase any more tickets to Braves Games as long as Chipper doesn’t hustle and Bobby Cox is the manager in the ATL. NO EFFORT = NO MONEY!!!

“He was a skater boy, she said see ya later boy, he wasn’t good enough for her“, is the way Avril Lavigne tells the story of how a girl didn’t give a skater boy the time, because her friends wouldn’t have approved. Then the skater boy makes it big and rocks it out on MTV and the girl that didn’t want him was all alone and missed out. Well it looks like I will be going under the knife soon to get rid of some wisdom teeth. I hear it’s not too pleasant of an experience. They say the younger you are is the faster that your body will recover. So it looks like I might be a little late on this procedure, since I am 34 years old now.

I have been having tooth ache pains from one of my back teeth. It’s been aggervating dealing with the pain for it. I have a dentist that said he could pull it, but it wouldn’t be the most comfortable experience. He said it would be better if I got it took out when I have my wisdom teeth removed. So I am going to take his advice and just wait til they put me to sleep and take out my wisdom teeth to have this tooth took out too.

I know a lot of people that had trouble after their surgeries. I hope I can get back to normal real soon after my procedure. I will have some time to think about it, because I go for my consulation on September 4th and it will probably be a week after that before they actually remove my teeth. I got to start taking better care of the teeth that I have left now, so I can continue to enjoy all the foods that I love. I couldn’t imagine not being able to eat an apple, corn on the cobb, or a good ol steak. I’m less concerned with how it makes my appearance look. I just want my teeth to stay intact so I can eat all the good food that is out there.

The Atlanta Braves needing to win every game possible right now, has just finished up a series with the Reds where they lost 3 of 4 games. Bobby Cox’s precious closer Bob Wickman suffered the defeat in last night’s game that went to extra innings. Wickman is a solid pitcher, but it’s funny how Bobby Cox has kept him as the closer. There are 4 relief pitchers on the Braves roster who are clearly better than Bob Wickman. If you look at the fast ball speed and movement on their pitches, then I have no doubts that Rafael Soriano, Mike Gonzalez, Octavio Dotel, and Tyler Yates are all more suitable for a closer’s role. A couple of these pitchers are hurt and Gonzalez is out for the year. It’s just the fact that when everyone has played, none of these guys have been given a shot at the closer’s role, while Wickman seems to struggle each opportunity he gets.

The Braves virtually have no shot at winning the NL East now with the way Bobby Cox manages. He got threw out in last night’s game after the team went down 5 to 1. It’s that type of attitude of giving up, gives no hope for the Braves team or their fans that the Braves can comeback from this defecit.

Chipper Jones once again proves he isn’t going to hustle while he’s out there. He was thrown out at 3rd base last night while running from 2nd base on a grounder to the shortstop. For some reason Chipper watched the ball and the shortstop field it, instead of putting his head down and getting to 3rd base as fast as he could. Then the other night he hits a ball to centerfield and was an obvious double. He just strolls around 1st base then centerfielder Josh Hamilton from the Reds made a strong throw to 2nd base and just barely missed Chipper sliding in. The play was close because Chipper Jones doesn’t hustle. Chipper’s stats might look good from last night, but it’s been going on like this all year. He gets his hits early and doesn’t deliver late in the game when we really need them.

If Andrew Jones continues to hit in front of 300 AVG hitters and a 300 AVG hitter has to sit on the bench to have him out there, then the Braves aren’t looking to win no way. THERE IS NO WAY ANDRUW JONES SHOULD BE PLAYING EVERYDAY!!!

This is a good time of the year to be thinking about Home insurance. My area is getting near the end of tornado season and hurricane season is just now starting up. Seeing all the folks in the Midwest USA and the people living in Mexico; I just hope all those folks have home owners insurance. The breaking news that is out there now, is that Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons will plead guilty to dogfighting charges, according to his attorney. So now that Vick’s end of the deal is close to a resolution, just where does the NFL and Arthur Blank stand?

I find it funny how Arthur Blank of the Atlanta Falcons has reacted to the whole situation. Back when Vick was at the Miami airport trying to get marijuana on a airplane via a waterbottle, it was Blank and the Falcon’s Brass that quickly prosecuted him. Then they was left with the task to reel back from their emotions, after the charges was dropped. As far as Arthur Blank was concerned this was something he could sweep under the carpet. Just like he has swept the middle finger incident, where Vick flipped off his own home fans. Also you have the Ron Mexico incident that was overlooked and settled out of court when Vick gave a lady herpes. You look at his brother Marcus and see the problems that existed there, it was clear that Michael Vick was a bad seed.

Now after all those things, he was going to be able to play football in Hotlanta this year. Until the latest charges of dogfighthing surfaced. Blank and crew learned from the waterbottle incident to let the law runs it’s course before making any statements. Until they felt pressure from the media and other protest groups, then they caved in and pointed the finger at Vick too.

This shows you the man that is behind Arthur Blank. When the going gets tough, just quit. That is the attitude and perception that the owner of the Atlanta Falcons has given off. He took the high road and didn’t want superstars like Randy Moss and Terrell Owens when they wanted to come to Atlanta. Now Blank is left alone with his choir boys to compete in one of the toughest sports in the world and with no marketable player on the roster. Don’t expect the Falcons to have any Thanksgiving or Monday Night games next year. No one wants to see this team play football and that includes the fans in Atlanta.

Now the part that is most sickening about all of this ties in with the Virginia Tech Shootings where Vick went to college at. After these things were brought up, the NFL and Arthur Blank allowed Vick to take part in a tribute to the Virginia Tech Shootings at the NFL Draft. This was a mistake and I wondered why either party allowed him to be at the draft. Now that the world is against Vick, they jump on the bandwagon party too.

The lack of Arthur Blank and the NFL to stand behind Vick until things were more clearly out in the open, showed their weakness to public pressure. Blank will never be the owner of a Super Bowl team with his method of taking care of players, showing favortism, and then not willing to support his own players. Vick obviously needs a friend and the people that should have been there for him, was some of the first ones to turn their back and run from him.

I hope these people can live with their self if this takes a turn for the worse and we hear about Michael Vick commiting suicide or something like that. How will Peta, the NFL, and Arthur Blank feel when they hear a story like that? He did something bad and needs punishment. There are no doubts there, but people have to realize when punishment has been served, and Michael Vick has been punished for his crime.

So now you can officially toss the Atlanta Falcons in the same hat as the Bengals, Raiders, and Vikings for having players on their team that caused so much disruption off the field, it hurt their team’s success on the field. Blank might be a whiz at building a home, but he is one of the worse owners ever for building a football team. It’s unthinkable to believe how good this team could have been if they would have brought in the Superstars when they wanted to play in Atlanta and didn’t concern their self so much on locker room disruptions.

It looks like we still have a lot more warm days of summer to take care of all those outdoor projects at home. I know here in the Southeast, we usually get a lot more rain days from now until the cold days get here; so outdoor touch ups on the home have to be done a day here or a day there. There is still a lot of time to still get most outdoor projects done.

For all those that want to touch up the inside of the house, then you don’t mind waiting for rainy and cold days. When you do start working indoors on your home, you might want to look at home lighting as the first thing you do. Adding a lot of light to your home will bring out all the soar spots and you can make better decisions on what needs to be done first. The extra lighting could show places on the walls, ceilings, and floors that you weren’t aware of before. If you add in any extra lighting down the road, you might just have to go back over a project that you have just completed. So to avoid having to redo projects over, just add a few extra lights inside the house and make sure you see everything that you’re wanting too!

It looks like the first big hurricane of the season is fast approaching the Gulf. I know the folks of Texas do not want to see anymore rain, so maybe this hurricane will take a sharp turn to the North real soon. We could really use the rain in Georgia, and would welcome a tropical storm in our area. I know they say to be careful for what you wish for, but as of right now, I can’t see the harm in wishing for a few inches of rain. I guess we will just have to wait and see what Dean does over the next few days, but it’s looking more and more like the U.S. could be receiving a major hurricane sometime this week.

Well it’s time for an all star cast of players to get together once again and represent the United States in basketball at the FIBA Americas Tournament in Las Vegas. It’s important that these stars can somehow come together and bring home the gold. This team has more pressure on them, than any other team ever has. It’s amazing to see U.S. Basketball continue to get beat at the International level, when you consider all the stars that have made up some of those teams. Maybe they just need Air Jordan to come in and help these guys out. They will have Kobe Bryant who is clearly the best player on the planet right now and it would be hard to imagine any team that has Kobe Bryant on it, failing in one of these International competitions. It should be interesting to see how the team does this week in Las Vegas.

Canton, Georgia is a city located in Cherokee County that is about 40 miles north of the Atlanta Area. I have found some surprising things that go on in Canton and thought it might be helpful to the residents of Canton; some of the things going on in their community. If you live in Cherokee County or any of the surroundings of Canton, like Holly Springs, Hickory Flat, Woodstock, Waleska, Ball Ground, Toonigh, Keithsburgh, Free Home, Buffington, Clayton, Sutatlle, or other parts near Canton, Georgia then this may effect you too. I am going to highlight bad business practices that have been going on in the area.

One of the most disturbing practices that is going on in Canton, Georgia is an attorney’s office. The folks at Abernathy & Associates located at 301 East Main Street in Canton is a shady place where the law gets handled on a daily basis. Steve Abernathy a well-known local lawyer in Canton is said to play golf with the judges and other personal things that would seem a bit fishy in conduct for an attorney to do. I guess you can’t blame someone for doing all they can for their clients. Don’t be too quick to rush out and hire this attorney or his law firm. While he might be able to pull some strings from you on the judges end, chances are you will never even see a judge. Actually this law firm will tell almost any person walking into their office that they will take the case and charge a hefty fee up front. Then something mysterious seems to always happen where they can’t take the case for some reason. If you’re lucky you will get a partial refund, but don’t expect 100 percent. They will flat out lie to you and tell you that they worked a little bit on your case,  and actually they have done nothing. They keep a partial amount of your money and then never do anything closely related to defending you in court. The law offices of Abernathy and Associates should be avoided at all cost for anybody in or around Canton, Georgia needing an attorney. This is by far the worse business in practice in Canton, Georgia and I’m not sure when the whistle will blow on these guys, but don’t be surprised to see them making headline news one day for shady practices in law. DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY UP FRONT TO THESE GUYS!

Let’s talk about food in Canton, Georgia! I know two places that you can look out for in Canton, Georgia for unfair and unlawful acts in business conducts. Starting off with a famous place that can be found in Canton, all of Georgia, and even all over the South. It’s none other than the guys that stay up 24 hours a day to bring you food in the Waffle House. Now if you get a “to-go” order at a Waffle House they have a 10 percent fee they can charge you for your order. This is legal and it can be read in their menus in small print. Now what is illegal about this practice is that they are charging the 10 percent after the sales tax has been included in your order. So the bigger your order is, the bigger your charge is going to be. To make things simple in math, I will show you a $100 order to go at Waffle House and what the charges are:

FOOD = $100

+

10% Waffle House ToGo Fee = $110

+

6% Georgia State Tax = $116

*The above example is the legal way to do this. You charge 10 percent for food cost and then the state tax is only charged on the food cost too. Both charges must be applied on food cost, but Waffle House Math doesn’t do this.

FOOD COST $100 + 6% STATE TAX= $116+ 10% WH togo FEE = $127.60

So as you can see, if done in the legally correct way Waffle House would get $116 on a $100 order that was placed to go. However, they believe in a way to roll their charges on top of the taxes and it equals up to $127.60 which is $11.60 more money you are spending on your togo bill at Waffle House.

I have asked several waitresses to explain this to me with no luck. I wrote Waffle House an email and they replied 2 days later and told me they would give the letter to the “proper department” and  I would hear back soon. It’s been over a month and still no word from Waffle House’s illegal business practices. I look for these guys to get took down to their knees over this over charging of their customers. If you get a order togo at Waffle House, be sure to do the bill in yourself and see if your charges match them. There is currently another study going on, where they don’t even charge you the correct price on the menu; that should be fun to see how they explain this one.

Also, while on food in Canton, Georgia please understand what the KFC restaurant across from K Mart is doing. Kentucky Fried Chicken apparently has some sort of device that is located in their drive thru, so they can keep up with times on the customers. Now the work staff in Canton’s KFC is quickly taking people’s money and having them to pull to parking places inside the restaurant. They do this in order to make their store look better than what it really is. Their bosses that are not at the store look at these drive thru times and see how well they are serving the customers.

The problem with this is that it actually takes you longer to get your food and also, when they ask you to pull to a parking space; you use more gas and run the risk of getting hit by another car in the parking lot while you back out from your parking place. If you like to eat at KFC in Canton, Georgia, then please wait at the window to get your food if you order from the drive thru. There is no sense for you to waste gas and expose yourself to backing out of a parking space, when they are just doing this practice to get good drive thru times.

I believe the higher people at KFC are aware of things like this, and they don’t really seem to care much on taking care of this dangerous practice. If they don’t care about your gas, safety, or the fact that you are getting your food slower this way, then please have no respect for them and drive up when asked. If they ask you to pull up, just politely turn off your engine and say “that’s fine, I will wait here”. This isn’t just regular employees that are doing this, these activities are done by the management at this KFC in Canton, Georgia. If you do decide to wait for your food, and you let them know that, be sure to pay close attention to their body language. Listen for grunts, look for rolling of the eyes, and don’t be surprised if someone else from the KFC comes to the window and ask you again to move, because they will do these tactics to try and make you feel like the bad guy here. REMEMBER THIS: THEY ARE ONLY TELLING YOU TO DRIVE UP, SO THEY HAVE BETTER DRIVE THRU TIMES, IT HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WITH SERVING THE CUSTOMER BEHIND YOU, LIKE SOME OTHER FOOD PLACES PRACTICE AND THEIR INTENTIONS ARE GOOD, UNLIKE THE KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN/KITCHEN’S FINEST CHICKEN/KFC IS DOING AT THE ONE IN CANTON GEORGIA

I’m sure when you feel like you have been done wrong, it’s natural to call the local police. Don’t be in a hurry to do that in Canton, Georgia either. I just now came through a road block that was being formed off the interstate of 575 onto HWY 140 (Hickory Flat Highway) in Canton. These guys were setting up a road block at 2AM in the morning on Sunday (August 19th) and these guys were squealing tires and hot Roding their tax paid cars around for their other co workers to see as this road block was being set up. I was so am amazed to see this activity, I did whip out the camcorder to catch this on film. I figure it would be good film footage to add to my collection on the law officers that are continually running our 4 way stops here in Canton, Georgia. It’s mainly done at the wee hours of the night and morning, but the law officers of Canton and it’s mainly the City of Canton Police Force that are running right through these 4 way stops and not coming close to any type of complete stop like you are suppose to. These are non emergency situations when they are doing these “ride by stop sign” practices.

So if you live in Canton, Georgia be sure to not hire any attorney from Abernathy and Associates, calculate your bill at Waffle House, don’t pull up at the drive thru at KFC, and watch out for the Police when going through a 4 way stop in Canton, Georgia. I will be sure to update on these things, to see if any of these things clear up or just get worse.

Another sign it is time for Bobby Cox of the Atlanta Braves to hang up the coaching position in Hotlanta. After his starter Chuck James was getting knocked around, Cox decided to relieve him. However, there was 2 outs in the inning and the pitcher for San Francisco was at bat. The Braves manager brings in Tyler Yates, who is one of the better pitchers on the staff. He comes in to strike out the pitcher and ends the Giants half of the inning. The Braves then got a couple of men on in the next inning and was force to pinch hit for Tyler Yates and he was done for the game. So Cox wasted a pitcher for just one batter, when he could have left Chuck James in to get the pitcher out and pitch hit for him in the next inning. It’s just another sign to show that the Atlanta Braves are not making all the right decisions or even showing any signs of hunger for the post season. Good luck to the Phillies and Mets as they will be battling for the NL East this year. The Atlanta Braves and Bobby Cox aren’t willing to commit to playing good baseball right now and it’s going to show in the stats come late next month.

The Atlanta Braves are a victim to their own success. After 14 years of winning pennants in the West and East Divisions of Baseball, they no longer have the desire or professionalism to achieve another one. The streak stopped last year and it appears a new streak has begun with their lack of effort for the 2007 season. It’s really disheartening to be a Braves fan right now and seeing the team collapse before your very eyes.

The man in charge is Bobby Cox and his favortism to players with higher contracts on the field is lending way to the more talented players the Braves have forced to ride the pine. You can’t deny the numbers that Willie Harris and Matt Diaz has put up in the outfield this year. One of these guys is forced to sit while Andruw Jones is barely making contact at the plate and appears to be blaming the poor slump on a soar elbow. If he’s hurt he should sit; he should be sitting just for the simple fact he’s no where near the production of what Willie Harris and Matt Diaz is giving you.

It was an interesting coaching strategy to see how the Braves beat the Giants in the first game of their current series. First of all, you had Bob Wickman who is clearly the 5th best relief pitcher on the team, and Cox has failed to move him out of the closer’s role. He has struggled in the closer role and having 4 pitchers on the staff that is clearly better than him. Now a couple of these pitchers are out with injuries. Mike Gonzalez and Octavio Dotel are out due to injuries, but neither guy was given the shot at the closer’s role. Then you have the favorite in Rafael Soriano who has been amazing. He’s given up some long balls, but I would rather lose that way then walking guys like Wickman has done. Tyler Yates is a hard thrower with better stuff than Wickman. However, Wickman remains the closer and he blew another save on Tuesday against the Giants.

After tying the game in the top of the 9th inning, the Braves was able to get their lead off man on in the bottom of the 9th inning. They had Kelly Johnson to bunt the runner over, but with a great hustling effort he beat out the play and was safe at 1st base. Now you have a player at 2nd base (which is the winning run) and you just have to make sure he gets to 3rd base. Chipper Jones comes to the plate with the hitting privelage? This seem to be a easy call for him to bunt the runner to third and stay out of the double play. Instead Cox let’s him swing away, because he shows favortism to his stars and winning this game is 2nd priority. Now even with the hit privelage you still have to hit the ball to the right side of the field. Well not only does Chipper swing, but he hits the ball to left field. It was a huge mistake and the Braves could have been in a double play or Chipper could have flew out and failed to move the runner to third. Now Chipper did come through with a hit, but it was a stupid way to play that situation and it’s things like that has kept the Braves from winning World Series.

It’s been the story all year as we have players at 2nd base with no outs and our guys continue to hit the ball to left field. Cox allows these players to get away with it and it’s a good reason to know why the Braves are not leaders in the Eastern Division. You must hit the ball to right field with a runner on 2nd base and no outs. It’s a must! Andruw has been in the lineup long enough, time to sit him before it’s too late!

To add salt to the wound, the Braves team got home at 3 or 4 AM Monday morning where 3 of their star players (Smoltz, Hudson, Francouer) play in a charity golf tournament. Why would you schedule any charitable even during baseball season? Why would you do this with 6 weeks left to go in a close pennant race? Why was Smoltz out there when he had to pitch on Tuesday? It’s because the Braves are not hungry to win this pennant and it’s why Smoltz struggled in the early part of that game. It’s really sad to see these spoiled millionaires not have the heart to give it their all.

For some reason tonight, Tim Hudson took off from first base on a deep fly ball to right field with 2 outs and ran a jogging pace watching the ball to see if the ball went over the outfielder’s head. It did go over his head, but Hudson only managed to get to 3rd base where that run never did score. The announcers said it was a wise decision, no need for him to run on a hot night and have a collision at the plate, and besides they are winning 2 to 0. It turned out that lead got wiped away when Barry Bonds hit his 759th career homerun and tied the score up late. Braves did manage to score more later, but Hudson’s play could have made the difference. You have to give it your all! Pitchers and position players and this just isn’t happening. It will do the Braves in and they will not be playing baseball in October if we get to get treated with Andruw’s whiff on the ball at every at-bat.
