Well I’m in the middle of my canning season for my tomatoes. I have been getting about 20 nice red ripe tomatoes about every 4 to 5 days right now. That’s pretty good considering the drought conditions that are happening right now. I planted about 80 plants in the spring and probably have about 35 now producing for me. So I have lost a little over half of my crop due to the bad drought conditions.
Now I have just been canning a quart each time I get my tomatoes. It takes about 20 to make a quart because the tomatoes are so small. Now I have about 5 quarts canned and a couple of pint jars of canned tomatoes. I really like the fresh tomatoes for my homemade soup. Nothing special in my soup; I just normally put some corn, okra, and brown some ground beef and throw in it. That’s pretty much all I want in it and it tastes great! Especially when you are using fresh tomatoes that you have grown yourself. The market tomatoes don’t quite have what the homegrown ones have.
I would like to hear some good soup recipes. If you have any good homemade soup recipes, then please be sure to post them. I would like to try some new ways to make soup and see if I can find one that taste better than my basic recipe.

It just keeps getting hotter here in the good ol South. I really can’t remember when it has ever been like this before. The drought conditions and the heat are making it tough for everybody. The elderly and kids need to be watched very closely as this heat wave continues. The air quality if very poor right now too, so staying indoors during the hottest part of the day is a good idea too.
I just heard on the news today here in Atlanta that a woman died from the heat. So it’s a very serious situation and fall is still a long ways away. If it doesn’t rain soon, then the lakes and rivers are going to continue drying up. They have been measuring temps on the lake in the 90’s. That is extremely warm and I have never recalled the water temperatures being that high.
Hurricane season is here now, but there really isn’t anything that is developing in the Gulf of Mexico where we might get most of our rains from. Tropical storms play a huge role in the Southeast during the fall time of the year. As bad as I hate to say it, I believe we need a hurricane to hit the U.S. for some much needed rain in our area. Be safe out there and be sure to drink plenty of liquids and keep your body hydrated!

All the folks that have lots of money to throw around are suggesting that we invest in land. I think this might be a good time for investors to consider putting their money in real estate. It appears all land will be on the steady rise over the next several years and the fact there just really isn’t enough of it, makes it perfect for an investment opportunity. This isn’t an investment that will take your whole life before you can start to see some noticeable profits. Buying a piece of land today and selling 10 years from now is amazing in most parts of the country. If you can find a way to have a 20 year time frame on your purchase, then you might be doubling or even tripling your money. Buy real estate and sit on it for 20 years and you won’t be disapointed!

I don’t know how many of you guys own a pressure washer or you might not even know what one is. It sounds just like that name implies. This handy little washer sprays out water at a high rate of speed. It’s much stronger than sticking the nozzle on the garden hose and spraying it.
Now I have never used one until recently and was surprised what this handy little tool could do. A friend of mine was building a deck for some people and asks for me to assist him. I did and was handing him tools and stuff like that as he was building the deck. Later on the homeowners ask us to pressure wash their fence and the house. Now they had a wooden fence that was about 6 feet high all the way around their property. You could see a lot of green mold and residue from the trees that made the fence look dark. When we started to pressure wash it, it was like brand new wood again. The difference it made in that fence was amazing and all from a little pressure washing.
Now we did the house also, but used bleach to help us there. They had your standard vinyl siding on their house and the pressure washer took away most of the dirt, but those green moldy stains didn’t come all the way off. We took a cup of bleach and would throw on all the hard spots and let the bleach sit for about 2 or 3 minutes then wash it off. It takes that stuff right off. Just don’t let the bleach sit too long or it can eat paint or fade the color noticeably on the house.
If you use a pressure washer on your house, fence, or even your car; be sure you keep it moving and practice with it in less seen places before you take off on places that are seen easily. That washer would tear the wood right off the fence if you left it there for any length of time or held it too closely. So be sure to practice a little bit with it before you take off on a house, car, fence, or anything else that you might want to pressure watch. If you let the kids use it, be sure to watch them closely. These pressure washers could easily take a eye out or something if not used properly. So please be careful with them and be sure to try it on your wooden fences!

I can’t believe my ears what is coming from NASCAR officials today after there was a scrum between Kevin Harvick and Juan Pablo Montoya. These two guys were in a physical altercation and weren’t easily separated when NASCAR individuals finally did decide to step in. Neither guy really wanted to let go of the other one. On top of that you had Kevin Harvick use a bad word in a threatening matter to Juan Pablo Montoya. The FCC doesn’t deem it as a bad word, but please go tell your local policeman what Harvick said and see where you wind up. I’m sure the police will love your FCC explanation.
Now lets look at me and the ordinary citizens of this country. If we physically assaulted someone and there was video evidence, we would be arrested and locked behind bars. If we used Kevin Harvick’s language, then that would be deemed a terroristic threat and again, that would be punishable by jail.
It’s amazing that NASCAR is seriously thinking about letting this one go. Kevin Harvick has already shown to have a quick temper in the sport and his actions were the worse on Sunday with physical and verbal abuse caught on camera. Now NASCAR is just laying down the ground work for this to happen again. If my driver gets suspended for hitting another driver or threatening him on National Television, then they better show the same punishment in the future as well.
NASCAR is really messing up! If you saw the most popular driver last year miss the cut for the Championship Race with Dale Earnhardt Jr. failing to finish in the top 10, then NASCAR gave two extra positions this year for him to get in. Now even with the extra help, Earnhardt isn’t going to be in the Cup Race this year either. Suspending Harvick for the rest of the season, which he deserves would help Earnhardt’s chances of getting in. If you are a little E fan, then you might want to push for punishment.
People want to talk about Michael Vick of the Falcons, but fail to see how this event in NASCAR on Sunday was worse than dog fighting and dog killing. These two guys could be holding a grudge and this could result in a human death on the track, and all because NASCAR is allowing this childish behavior. If Kevin Harvick is racing in Talladega on October 7th, then my party of a dozen or so people will not be making the trip out to Alabama. I urge others to boycott the race in Talladega if Harvick is allowed to race in it. It’s time Kevin Harvick is showed the door and Nascar doesn’t need guys representing the sport in that way. It would be nice to see the local law enforcement take action on this situation and file criminal charges against these 2 drivers.
Kevin Harvick hit, cussed, and argued with a guy that didn’t even have a choice when his car ran into him. We are rewarding the hot head who reacted and didn’t know all the facts yet. He had plenty of a chance to do to Montoya what he said he was going to do in the interview afterwards. Instead he was just trying to hold back Juan’s pushing hands from pushing him anymore. Kevin Harvick’s most aggressive moves in the altercation came when the NASCAR officials finally decided to step in between the two drivers. Take my advice NASCAR, get rid of Kevin Harvick for this year. If he’s racing, then the boycott is on!
